Die 2007 in Schweden gegründeten THE MURDER OF MY SWEET bringen mit «A Gentleman’s Legacy» bereits ihr sechstes Album heraus. Interessant hierbei ist, dass die Geschichte des Konzeptalbums als Fortsetzung des Albums «A Gentleman’s Hurricane» von MIND’S EYE, der anderen Band von Gründer und Schlagzeuger Daniel Flores, zu sehen ist. Die Protagonistin «Pandora» ist die Tochter von «Adam Evangelista», einem abtrünnigen CIA Agenten, welcher 2007 seine musikalischen Abenteuer erlebte. «A Gentleman’s Legacy» knüpft an die Geschichte an und führt «Pandora» auf einen Rachefeldzug gegen alle und jeden, welche ihren Vater in irgendeiner Form schadeten.
Und so ist das Album sehr textlastig, denn eine Geschichte erzählt sich nun mal nicht in einer Strophe und einem Refrain. Das musikalische Gefäss dient hierbei lediglich als Gerüst, welches die glasklare Stimme von Sängerin Angelica Rylin trägt. Die Musik steht – auch akustisch – etwas im Hintergrund, damit Hörerin und Hörer auch wirklich jedes Wort verstehen, und wird oft mit wilden Streicherarrangements versetzt. Das Album versprüht einen musicalesquen Touch, und nicht selten wähnt man sich in einem Disney Film, könnten die Songs doch auch von einer etwas dunkleren Version von Cinderella oder Elsa gesungen werden. «The Wheels Of Time» könnte auch gut aus «König Der Löwen» stammen.
Fazit
«A Gentleman’s Legacy» ist mehr Musical als Album. Wer sich die Zeit nehmen kann und will, wird mit einer ansprechenden Geschichte entlohnt – und kann sich als Bonus noch das «Prequel» von MIND’S EYE anhören, um die gesamte Story von Adam und Pandora Evangelista zu erfassen. Ein geschickter Schachzug.

Founded in Sweden in 2007, THE MURDER OF MY SWEET are already releasing their sixth album with „A Gentleman’s Legacy“. Interesting here is that the story of the concept album can be seen as a continuation of the album „A Gentleman’s Hurricane“ by MIND’S EYE, the other band of founder and drummer Daniel Flores. The protagonist „Pandora“ is the daughter of „Adam Evangelista“, a rogue CIA agent who had his musical adventures in 2007. A Gentleman’s Legacy“ picks up the story and leads „Pandora“ on a vendetta against all and sundry who harmed her father in any way.
And so the album is very lyric-heavy, because a story is not told in one verse and one chorus. The musical vessel serves only as a framework, which carries the crystal clear voice of singer Angelica Rylin. The music is – also acoustically – somewhat in the background, so that listeners really understand every word, and is often offset with wild string arrangements. The album exudes a musicalesque touch, and not infrequently one imagines oneself in a Disney film, as the songs could also be sung by a somewhat darker version of Cinderella or Elsa. „The Wheels Of Time“ could also well be from The Lion King.
Conclusion
„A Gentleman’s Legacy“ is more musical than album. Those who can and will take the time will be rewarded with an appealing story – and can listen to the „prequel“ of MIND’S EYE as a bonus to get the full story of Adam and Pandora Evangelista. A clever move.
