RAGE – „Resurrection Day“ im September
Die Freude der Fans war riesengross, als Rage-Frontmann Peavy Wagner im Sommer 2020 die neue Besetzung seiner Band mit gleich zwei Gitarristen vorstellte – jetzt wird die Freude noch grösser: am 17. September erscheint das neue Album „Resurrection Day“.

Peavy Wagner, Sänger und Bassist und RAGE-Urgestein hat sich neben Vassilios Maniatopoulos an den Drums neu die Gitarristen Stefan Weber (ex-AXXIS) und Jean Borman (Angel Inc, Rage & Ruins). Mit den zwei Gitarristen ist also eine Ur-Konstellation wieder erreicht und der Vierer dürfte an die alten Zeiten von „Black In Mind“ oder „End Of All Days “ anknüpfen.
„Ich bin überrascht, wie schnell sich das neue Line-Up als homogenes Team gefunden hat und wie positiv die individuellen Talente jedes einzelnen Bandmitgliedes zum Tragen kommen“, blickt Wagner auf eine hochkreative Produktionsphase zurück und erklärt angesichts der neuen Scheibe: „Ich habe den Eindruck, dass unser Sound einerseits zwar immer noch Rage-typisch ist, andererseits aber eine junge Frische hinzugewonnen hat.“
RAGE sind dafür bekannt, dass sie einen relativ breiten musikalischen Range abdecken – von Thrash bis Powerballade findet sich alles. So auch auf dem aktuellen Album:
„Virginity“, „The Age Of Reason“ oder „Extinction Overkill“ lassen sich in die erste Kategorie einteilen, „Black Room“ in die letzte. „Arrogance and Ignorance“ decken den Midtempo-Bereich ab, Songs wie „Man In Chains“ sind dann wieder reine Power Metal Nummern. „Travelling Through Time“ klassifiziert Peavy Wagner gleich selber: „Jeder bekommt auf Resurrection Day genau das, was er sich als Rage-Fan wünscht, plus die eine oder andere Überraschung“ – „Traveling Through Time“ ist eine Nummer, mit der die Extreme zwischen knüppelharten „Ballergrooves“ und epischen Momenten bis zum Äußersten ausgelotet werden. Inspiriert ist der Song von Giorgio Mainerio, einem Komponisten der Renaissance“, erläutert Peavy. „Von Mainierio gibt es ein Stück namens „Schiarazula Marazula“, mit einem wunderbaren Thema, das ich häufig zuhause auf der akustischen Gitarre spiele. Jean und ich haben es auf‘s Rage-Format ausgerichtet und dem Song einen anderen rhythmischen Aspekt gegeben, wodurch er an Intensität gewonnen hat. Eine Nummer wie ‚Travelling Through Time‘ hat es bei uns noch nie zuvor gegeben.“
Weiter kooperieren RAGE einmal mehr mit dem Spanier Pepe Herrero, der für vier Songs („Resurrection Day“, „The Age Of Reason“, „Travelling Through Time“, „Black Room“) stimmungsvolle Orchester-Arrangements beigesteuert hat.
„Resurrection Day“ ist kein klassisches Konzeptalbum. Textlich durchzieht die Tracks dennoch ein roter Faden: „Inhaltlich geht es um die Sicht auf die Menschheitsgeschichte aus philosophischer und psychologischer Betrachtung, ein Aspekt, der mich schon immer sehr interessiert hat. Und genau darin lag für mich auch diesmal wieder der besondere Reiz, nämlich Dinge näher zu beleuchten, mit denen ich mich schon lange beschäftige.“
Fazit
Eine Band wie RAGE kann sich nicht vollständig neu erfinden - will das wohl auch nicht. Trotzdem entwickeln sie sich laufend weiter, zeigen ihre musikalische Bandbreite, ihr ausgezeichnetes, kreatives Songwriting. Selbstverständlich gehört "Resurrection Day" in die gut sortierte Sammlung der RAGE-Fans. Darüber hinaus wertet sie aber das CD-Regal jedes Liebhabers sehr gut gemachten Metals auf - muss man kaufen!

Peavy Wagner, singer and bassist and RAGE veteran, has joined Vassilios Maniatopoulos on drums with guitarists Stefan Weber (ex-AXXIS) and Jean Borman (Angel Inc, Rage & Ruins). RAGE are known for covering a relatively wide musical range – from thrash to power ballad you can find everything. This is also the case on the current album:
„Virginity“, „The Age Of Reason“ or „Extinction Overkill“ can be put in the first category, „Black Room“ in the last. „Arrogance and Ignorance“ covers the midtempo range, songs like „Man In Chains“ are pure power metal numbers again. Peavy Wagner himself classifies „Travelling Through Time“: „Everyone gets exactly what they want as a Rage fan on Resurrection Day, plus one or two surprises“ – „Traveling Through Time“ is a number that explores the extremes between hard-hitting „baller grooves“ and epic moments to the extreme. The song is inspired by Giorgio Mainerio, a Renaissance composer,“ Peavy explains. „There is a piece by Mainierio called „Schiarazula Marazula“, with a wonderful theme that I often play at home on the acoustic guitar. Jean and I adapted it to Rage format and gave the song a different rhythmic aspect, which made it more intense. A number like ‚Travelling Through Time‘ has never been done by us before.“
Further, RAGE once again collaborate with Spaniard Pepe Herrero, who contributed atmospheric orchestral arrangements for four songs („Resurrection Day'“ „The Age Of Reason“, „Travelling Through Time“, Black Room“).
„Resurrection Day‘ is not a classic concept album. Lyrically, however, there is a common thread running through the tracks: „The content is about the view of human history from a philosophical and psychological point of view, an aspect that has always interested me very much. And that’s exactly where the special attraction lay for me again this time, namely to take a closer look at things I’ve been dealing with for a long time.“
Conclusion
A band like RAGE cannot completely reinvent itself - and probably doesn't want to. Nevertheless, they are constantly developing, showing their musical range, their excellent, creative songwriting. Of course, "Resurrection Day" belongs in the well-stocked collection of RAGE fans. But beyond that, it enhances the CD shelf of every lover of very well-made metal - must buy!
