Wer als Support von AS I LAY DYING oder HATEBREED auf der Bühne gestanden ist, hat eine erste Duftmarke hinterlassen. Mit „X“ bringen die Jungs nach „Seelenfeuer“ von 2019 ihr zweites Album auf den Markt. SILENZER sind Sänger Chris, die Gitarristen Dave und Lukas, Basser Mexx und Drummer Fabian. So rein bildmässig sehen die Jungs relativ jung aus – was sie nicht daran hindert, mit „X“ ein ziemlich ausgewachsenes Album vorzulegen.

Knappe 38 Minuten ist das Album lang, 10 Tracks teilen sich diese Spielzeit und – die Mannen singen deutsch! Nicht, dass sie die einzige Band wären, welche das macht. Eine Herausforderung bleibt es doch – schliesslich wird in unserem Sprachraum schonungslos verstanden, was da erzählt wird. Soviel kann ich schon einmal sagen; was hier geboten wird, ist ziemlich anspruchsvoll und beeindruckend. Die Band scheint keine Hemmungen zu haben, sich bis aufs Hemd auszuziehen, ihr Innerstes nach aussen zu kehren. Ein Beispiel ist der Track „Ex“, der das Ende einer Beziehung thematisiert – und die ist kaum in Minne verlaufen. By The Way wurde das Video dazu ziemlich cool umgesetzt.

Soundtechnisch haben die Jungs eine massive Kiste gebaut – Brett an Brett reiht sich auf dem Album aneinander – trotzdem bleibt Platz für Melodie und ruhige Momente. So ist „Stille Wasser“ sehr eindringlich, eine bewegende Ballade, musikalisch nahe an der Grenze zum Pop, Alternative, Indie oder sowas in deutsch. Das braucht Mut, Musik und Text treffen sich aber, passen zueinander.
Und keine Angst, die Jungs können auch anders – beispielsweise bei „In Deinem Verlies“ – hart, kompromisslos und trotzdem wieder melodisch.
Mich beeindruckt der Mix zwischen dermassen sanften Songs auf der einen, beinharten Hardcorenummern auf der andern Seite. Wobei, so eine reine „ich-mach-dich-tot“-Nummer gibt es nicht, einen Abbruchhammer, der sich durchzieht. Dafür leben fast alle Songs von der musikalischen Bandbreite, die sich nicht nur durch das Album zieht, sondern durch jeden einzelnen Track.
SILENZER erinnern mich in vielen Bereichen an eine Band aus dem Hause Neue Deutsche Härte; NULL DB. Deren Album „Endzeit“ halte ich nach wie vor für eines der besten und eindrücklichsten Scheiben in diesem Genre . „Kinder Des Zorns“ oder „Die Jagd beginnt“ fahren mir auch heute noch bei jedem Hören in die Knochen. SILENZERs „X“ spielt für mich in beinahe derselben Liga, erfüllen ebenfalls den Anspruch an geilen Sound gekoppelt mit intelligenten, tiefgründigen Texten.

Fazit

SILENZER sind eine Band mit viel Potenzial, die Jungs können es weit bringen und gehren auch auf grosse Bühnen. Hoffen wir, dass nach der Pandemie die Bereitschaft da ist, sich mit solcher Musik auseinanderzusetzen. Also; erstens unterstützt die Band und zweitens gönnt euch vierzig Minuten richtig guter Mucke – kaufen!

Whoever has been on stage as support for AS I LAY DYING or HATEBREED has left a first scent mark. This is true for SILENZER from Austria, meanwhile the guys have more than sixty live shows behind them, in 2022 they will probably be on tour with UNZUCHT and LORD OF THE LOST. With „X“ the guys release their second album after „Seelenfeuer“ from 2019. SILENZER are singer Chris, guitarists Dave and Lukas, bassist Mexx and drummer Fabian. So purely pictorially, the guys look relatively young – which doesn’t stop them from delivering a pretty full-blown album with „X“.

So let’s listen to the new opus a bit more closely…

The album is just under 38 minutes long, 10 tracks share this playing time and – the men sing German! Not that they are the only band to do so. But it remains a challenge – after all, what is being said is understood relentlessly in our language area. This much I can say already; what is offered here is quite demanding and impressive. The band seems to have no inhibitions about stripping down to the shirt, about turning their innermost selves inside out. One example is the track „Ex“, which deals with the end of a relationship – and it hardly went in minne. By The Way, the video for it was pretty cool.

Soundwise, the guys have built a massive box – board after board lines up on the album – yet there is still room for melody and quiet moments. So „Stille Wasser“ is very haunting, a moving ballad, musically close to the border of pop, alternative, indie or something in German. That takes courage, but music and lyrics meet, fit together.
And don’t worry, the guys can also be different – for example in „In Deinem Verlies“ – hard, uncompromising and yet melodic again.
I am impressed by the mix between such gentle songs on the one hand and hardcore numbers on the other. But there is no such pure „I’m going to kill myself“ number, a demolition hammer that runs through the whole thing. On the other hand, almost all songs live from the musical range, which not only runs through the album, but through every single track.
SILENZER remind me in many areas of a band from Neue Deutsche Härte; NULL DB. I still consider their album „Endzeit“ to be one of the best and most impressive records in this genre. „Kinder Des Zorns“ or „Die Jagd beginnt“ still drive me into my bones every time I listen to them. SILENZER’s „X“ plays for me in almost the same league, also fulfilling the demand for awesome sound coupled with intelligent, profound lyrics.

Conclusion

SILENZER are a band with a lot of potential, the guys can go far and they can go on big stages. Let’s hope that after the pandemic, the willingness is there to take on music like this. So; firstly support the band and secondly treat yourself to forty minutes of really good music – buy!
