Wieder einmal liegt Bluesrock bei mir auf dem Pult – oder meiner Festplatte. Es scheint, als würde der kommende Frühling den Bluesbands besonders zusagen, um neues Material herauszubringen. PONTILLO AND THE VINTAGE CREW gibt es in dieser Zusammensetzung seit 2020 – also Gianni Pontillo – Vocals, Mark Elliott – Guitars, Reto Wild – Drums, Alain Schwaller – Bass und Chris Iakab – Guitars. Und irgendwie kennt man doch den Namen des Fronters, oder? Ach ja, PURE INC. und VICTORY, da hat er schon als Mikrofonhalter und Lautsprecher gejobbt – und nicht mal so übel… Jetzt verlegt sich Pontillo jedoch auch auf die weniger harten Klänge, lotet den vorhandenen Spielraum grosszügig aus.
Was dabei herausgekommen ist, sind 10 abwechslungsreiche Tracks. Da brettert es zum Einen, zum Zweiten gibt es Midtemposongs und zum Dritten waschechte Balladen. Pontillo zeigt eindrücklich, dass er deutlich mehr drauf hat als „nur“ Hardrock. Insgesamt legt er ein Album vor, das technisch ohne Makel ist, einen weiten Range beim Songwriting auftut und eine Truppe von hochkarätigen Musikern vereint.
Ich mag zum Beispiel das Solo beim Opener „For The Love Of Blues“ sehr gerne, richtig fetzige Saitenarbeit. Oder der an ROXETTE erinnernde Beginn von „City Of Gold“, das dann in einen Midtempoblues übergeht. Wie wäre es mit einer Powerballade? Bitteschön; „Long Time Gone“ erfüllt auch diesen Wunsch – und auch hier eine wunderbar integrierte Gitarre, von sanftem Wimmern im Hintergrund bis hin zu Riffwänden, wie wir sie aus der Alternative Rockszene gut kennen.
Richtig Gänsehaut gibt es dann bei der Ballade „CC Song“ – Pontillo und Klavier – mehr braucht es nicht, um eindrücklich zu sein… Eine weitere, leicht psychedelisch angehauchte Bluesballade wäre dann noch „Sing The Blues“, wobei der zweite Teil mehr psychedelisch denn balladig ist – aber einfach der Hammer.
Fazit
Ein rundum geglücktes Album, das man sich unbedingt vormerken sollte. Eine charismatische Stimme im Mittelpunkt, darum versammelt eine Bande guter Musiker – das Album sollte man unbedingt kaufen!

Once again, blues rock is on my desk – or my hard drive. It seems that the coming springtime is particularly good for blues bands to release new material. PONTILLO AND THE VINTAGE CREW has exist in this composition since 2020 – Gianni Pontillo – vocals, Mark Elliott – guitars, Reto Wild – drums, Alain Schwaller – bass and Chris Iakab – guitars. And somehow you know the name of the front man, don’t you? Oh yes, PURE INC. and VICTORY, he already worked there as a microphone holder and loudspeaker – and not bad at all… Now Pontillo is also shifting to the less hard sounds and is generously exploring the available scope.
The result is 10 varied tracks. On the one hand, there is rocking, on the other hand, there are midtempo songs and on the third hand, there are genuine ballads. Pontillo shows impressively that he is capable of much more than „just“ hard rock. All in all, he presents an album that is technically flawless, offers a wide range of songwriting and unites a troupe of top-class musicians.
For example, I really like the solo on the opener „For The Love Of Blues“, really groovy string work. Or the ROXETTE-like beginning of „City Of Gold“, which then turns into a midtempo blues. How about a power ballad? Here you go; „Long Time Gone“ also fulfils this wish – and here, too, a wonderfully integrated guitar, from gentle wailing in the background to walls of riffs that we know well from the alternative rock scene.
The ballad „CC Song“ really gives you goosebumps – Pontillo and piano – that’s all it takes to be impressive… Another blues ballad with a slightly psychedelic touch would be „Sing The Blues“, whereby the second part is more psychedelic than balladic – but simply awesome.
Conclusion
An all-round successful album that you should definitely make a note of. A charismatic voice in the centre, a band of good musicians gathered around it – you should definitely buy this album!
