Rock-Metal aus den USA zuhause bei Pavement Records

Also, wenn ein Mädel, zudem ein kleines Mädel, mit 16 Jahren bei THE VOICE USA gleich vier Chairs kriegt und von Miley Cyrus als Rockgöttin bezeichnet wird, dann lohnt sich zumindest ein näherer Blick – oder besser ein Ohr.

Moriah Formica kommt jetzt als Leadsängerin und Gitarristin der Kapelle PLUSH zurück. Die vier Mädels legen ein aussergewöhnlich erwachsenes Rock-Album vor, das deutlich metallene Züge zeigt. Neben Moriah gehören zur Band Brooke Colucci (Drums), Ashley Suppa (Bass) und Bella Perron (Lead Guitar).
Infos finden sich nicht so richtig viele, ausser, dass alle Mitglieder der Band unter 21 Jahre alt sind oder dass Gitarristin Bella Perron am renommierten Berklee College Of Music studiert. Das College ist eine ganz grosse Adresse, haben dort etwa Namen wie Adam Dutkiewicz von KILLSWITCH ENGAGE oder MELISSA ETHERIDGE oder AL DI MEOLA oder Donald Fagan (STEELY DAN), DREAM THEATER DRUMMER Mike Mangini, und Gitarrist John Petrucci, Gitarrenheld STEVE VAY sowie jede Menge grosser Jazz-Musiker oder Klassik-Künstler – die Liste ist schier endlos. Das kann ja eigentlich nur bedeuten, dass die Saitenfrau ein richtiges Ass ist. Ist sie!
Was die Mädels mit ihrem Debut anstellen werden, lässt sich erst erahnen.

Genau 13 Songs haben sie auf den Tonträger geballert, und von denen fällt keiner ab, wirklich keiner. Die Truppe bezeichnet sich als Rockband – was zu grossen Teilen stimmt – gitarrenlastiger Sound mit viel Soloarbeit, ein knackiges, starkes Rhythmus-Fundament und eine Rockstimme, die eindrücklich und klar in die Gehörgänge dringt. Da gibt es von relativ sanften Passagen bis zum heftigen Scream die gesamte Bandbreite.
Bestes Beispiel dafür ist „Better Off Alone“. Als Beispiel der metallenen Härte – und hier spätestens müssten unsere Powermetallerinnen BURNING WITCHES ihre Besen besteigen und flüchten – legen die Mädels den Opener „Athena“ vor. Dieser Druck, diese Breakdowns, da kann sich manch gestandene Männertruppe warm anziehen und bescheiden zur Seite treten. Diese Mädels sind kick ass, nicht mehr und nicht weniger.
Mit „Don’t Say That“, „Why Do I Even Try“ oder dem Hookliner „Sober“ haben sie auch drei Powerballaden im Angebot, „Bring Me Down“ ist ein Midtempo-Kracher, mit „Will Not Win“ fetzen sie nochmals eine Metalnummer raus – das Album ist vielfältig, das Soundwriting sehr kreativ.

Fazit

Das ist also ein Erfolgsrezept; vier nett anzusehende Mädels auf die Bühne stellen und sie grossartigen Rock spielen lassen? Reicht nicht ganz; eine richtig geile Gitarre und eine atemberaubende Stimme sind dann schon eher der Lottogewinn. Empfehlung – kauft euch den geilen Scheiss ab dem 12. November!

So, when a girl, a little girl at that, gets four chairs at THE VOICE USA at the age of 16 and is called a rock goddess by Miley Cyrus, it’s at least worth a closer look – or better an ear.

Moriah Formica now returns as lead singer and guitarist of the band PLUSH. The four girls present an exceptionally grown-up rock album that clearly shows metallic traits. Besides Moriah, the band includes Brooke Colucci (drums), Ashley Suppa (bass) and Bella Perron (lead guitar).
Info is not really much to be found, except that all members of the band are under 21 years old or that guitarist Bella Perron is studying at the renowned Berklee College Of Music. The college is a big address, with names like Adam Dutkiewicz from KILLSWITCH ENGAGE or MELISSA ETHERIDGE or AL DI MEOLA or Donald Fagan (STEELY DAN), DREAM THEATER DRUMMER Mike Mangini, and guitarist John Petrucci, guitar hero STEVE VAY and any number of great jazz musicians or classical artists – the list is almost endless. This can only mean that the string woman is a real ace. She is!
What the girls will do with their debut can only be guessed.

Exactly 13 songs they have bombed onto the recording medium, and none of them fall off, really none. The band calls itself a rock band – which is true to a large extent – a guitar-heavy sound with a lot of solo work, a crisp, strong rhythm foundation and a rock voice that impressively and clearly penetrates the auditory canals. There is the whole range from relatively soft passages to heavy screams.
Best example is „Better Off Alone“. As an example of metallic hardness – and here at the latest our power metallers BURNING WITCHES should mount their brooms and flee – the girls present the opener „Athena“. This pressure, these breakdowns, many a seasoned male troupe can dress warmly and step aside modestly. These girls are kick ass, no more and no less.
With „Don’t Say That“, „Why Do I Even Try“ or the hookliner „Sober“ they also have three power ballads on offer, „Bring Me Down“ is a midtempo smash, with „Will Not Win“ they shred out another metal number – the album is diverse, the soundwriting very creative.

Conclusion

So this is a recipe for success; put four nice looking girls on stage and let them play great rock? Not quite enough; a really awesome guitar and a stunning voice are more like winning the lottery then. Recommendation – buy this awesome shit from 12 November!
