Amaranthe? Noch nie gehört? So erging es mir vor einigen Tagen auch noch. Im Nachhinein bin ich ein wenig traurig, dass ich zuvor noch nie von der schwedisch-dänischen Band gehört habe.

Nachdem es hieß, es kommt ein neues Album, begann ich recht zügig meine Reise, mich mit der Band vertraut zu machen und bin schwer begeistert. 2020 erschien ihr letztes Album „Manifest“ welches in sämtlichen Medien hoch gelobt wurde, viel versprechend, dachte ich mir. Sofort begann ich mir das neue Album „The Catalyst“, welches am 24.02.2024 sein Release feiert, anzuhören.

Amaranthe gibt es seit 2008, 2011 veröffentlichten sie ihr gleichnamiges Album und sie waren direkt Support-Act von Hammerfall auf deren Europa-Tour. Anschließend folgte 2012 eine Festival-Tour mit einem Auftritt auf dem Wacken Open Air. Das zu lesen hat mich direkt beeindruckt. 2013, 2014, 2016 und 2018 legten sie direkt ein Album nach dem anderen nach, zu guter Letzt dann 2020 das Album „Manifest“ unter dem Lable Nuclear Blast.
So viel mal zur Band, doch jetzt meine persönliche Meinung zum Album „The Catalyst“

Nach den ersten beiden Songs „The Catalyst“ und „Insatiable“ war klar, das kann ich nicht nur nebenbei hören und lies alle anderen Arbeiten links liegen. Fast schon gefesselt von dem grandiosen mix aus Metal und Elektro hörte ich mir immer wieder die 13 Songs an. Das Album beginnt durch den gleichnamigen Song „The Catalyst“ – einfach mit einem Brett. Es zwingt einen schon gerade dazu weiter zu hören. Dann der nächste Hammer „Insatiable“ und weiter mit „Damnation Flame“ haben mich komplett gefesselt. Ich bin nach wie vor absolut begeistert von Frontsängerin Elize!

Bei meinen Recherchen las ich schon öfter, dass Elize und Vocalist Nils eine fast schon perfekte Kombi ergeben und wurde auf alle Fälle nicht enttäuscht. Mit den harten Growls von Mikael gibt es den Songs eine ganz besondere Note, gerade wenn es zum Dreifach-Gesang kommt. Elize hat eine wunderbare und sanfte Stimme die einen mit der von Niels zusammen in einen Bann zieht. Spätestens bei „Stay A Little While“, eines meiner Favoriten des Albums, sollte es auch den letzten Skeptiker überzeugt haben. Ein wunderbar ruhiger Song zwischen durch, welcher aber gleich mit „Ecstasy“ bei Seite geschoben wird. Das Album endet mit dem perfekten Cover von ROXETTE „Fading Like A Flower“.

Fazit

Ich muss wirklich zugeben, dieses Album hat mich wortwörtlich gefesselt. Auf Alle Fälle nichts, was man nebenher hören sollte. Nach den letzten Tönen von „Fading Like A Flower“ werde ich fast schon ein wenig traurig, dass das Album schon wieder vorbei ist. Ich glaube es reicht nicht, wenn ich sage ich habe es in 3 Tagen 8-9 mal komplett durchgehört. Die Band bringt so viel mit, dass es meiner Meinung nach für ein Album gar nicht ausreicht. Die Power der Sänger, die starken Gitarrenriffs, phänomenaler Bass und die Drums lassen wirklich keine Zeit für Kritik. Auch das Klavier, mit welchem man nicht rechnet, welches bei „Stay A Little While“ vorkommt setzt noch das i-Tüpfelchen auf das Ganze. Auch der Song „Breaking The Waves“ lässt einen wirklich nicht ruhig sitzen!

Unter dem Musikvideo „Outer Dimensions“ sprechen die Kommentare für sich und denen kann ich mich nur anschließen:
„When Elize and Nils sing together it becomes a sweet melody. I would have liked Mikael’s participation a little but the song is excellent, long live Amaranthe“ So die Meinung eines Users, eine von vielen Zusprüchen zu diesem Video und zur Band!

Das Album bekommt von mir eine ganz klare Empfehlung. Ein reinhören lohnt sich auf alle Fälle!

Amaranthe? Never heard of it? That’s what happened to me a few days ago. In retrospect, I’m a little sad that I’d never heard of the Swedish-Danish band before.

After hearing that a new album was coming, I quickly began my journey to familiarise myself with the band and I’m really excited. Their last album „Manifest“ was released in 2020 and was highly praised in all the media, promising, I thought to myself. I immediately started listening to the new album „The Catalyst“, which will be released on 24 February 2024.

Amaranthe have been around since 2008, they released their album of the same name in 2011 and were the support act for Hammerfall on their European tour. This was followed by a festival tour in 2012 with a performance at the Wacken Open Air. Reading that impressed me straight away. In 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2018, they released one album after the other, followed by the album „Manifest“ in 2020 under the Nuclear Blast label.
So much for the band, but now my personal opinion on the album „The Catalyst“

After the first two songs, „The Catalyst“ and „Insatiable“, it was clear that I couldn’t just listen to it on the side and left all other work behind. Almost captivated by the grandiose mix of metal and electro, I listened to the 13 songs again and again. The album begins with the song of the same name, „The Catalyst“ – simply with a plank. It forces you to keep listening. Then the next hammer „Insatiable“ and then „Damnation Flame“ completely captivated me. I’m still absolutely thrilled with lead singer Elize!

During my research, I’ve often read that Elize and vocalist Nils make an almost perfect combination and I was definitely not disappointed. Mikael’s harsh growls give the songs a very special flavour, especially when it comes to the triple vocals. Elize has a wonderful and gentle voice which, together with Niels‘, casts a spell over you. By „Stay A Little While“, one of my favourites on the album, even the last sceptic should be convinced. A wonderfully calm song in between, which is immediately pushed aside with „Ecstasy“. The album ends with the perfect cover of ROXETTE’s „Fading Like A Flower“.

Conclusion

I really have to admit, this album literally captivated me. Definitely not something you should listen to on the side. After the last few notes of „Fading Like A Flower“, I almost feel a little sad that the album is already over. I don’t think it’s enough to say that I’ve listened to it 8-9 times in 3 days. The band brings so much to the table that I don’t think it’s enough for one album. The power of the singers, the strong guitar riffs, phenomenal bass and the drums really leave no time for criticism. The piano, which you wouldn’t expect to hear on „Stay A Little While“, is the icing on the cake. The song „Breaking The Waves“ really doesn’t leave you sitting still either!

The comments under the music video „Outer Dimensions“ speak for themselves and I can only agree with them:

The album gets a very clear recommendation from me. It’s definitely worth a listen!
