ALMANAC und BURNING WITCHES

Auch zuhause eingesperrt? Dann wäre doch Zeit, sich wieder etwas hartes Material zu Gemüte zu führen. ALMANAC und BURNING WITCHES haben ihre Scheiben zwar schon seit einiger Zeot draussen – ich geb trotzdem meinen Senf dazu.

Viktor Smolski ist ein begnadeter Saitenzauberer und ein Poser vor dem Herrn – ich mag ihn musikalisch und als Liveact. Dass er was kann, ist unbestritten. Dass er dazu neigt, seine Gitarrenarbeit etwas zu stark ins Zentrum zu rücken, ist nicht seine grösste Stärke.
Nach einigen Wechseln im Lineup, insbesondere einmal mehr beim Gesang, durfte man gesapnnt sein, was das aktuelle Album zu bieten haben würde – nicht viel Neues, muss ich leider konstatieren. Kraftvollen, gitarrenlastigen Powermetal mit einogen progressiven Elementen und gutem Gesang – nicht mehr und nicht weniger.

Viktor Smolski is a gifted string magician and a poser before the Lord – I like him musically and as a live act. That he can do something is undisputed. The fact that he tends to put his guitar work a bit too much into the centre is not his greatest strength.
After some changes in the lineup, especially once again with the vocals, one could be curious what the current album would offer – not much new, I have to say. Powerful, guitar-heavy power metal with monogenic progressive elements and good vocals – nothing more and nothing less.

BURNING WITCHES – „Dance With The Devil“

Was soll man sagen, wenn in der Schweiz die Promotion und der Support stimmt, bringen wir allemal eine brauchbare Powermetalband auf die Bühne. Auch wenn das Ensemble ein wenig wie gecastet wirkt – eine Metal-Girls-Band sozusagen – auf Studioalben fetzen die fünf Hübschen allemal, rocken auch auf „Dancing With The Devil“ massig ab.
Was ich nach wie vor vermisse, ist ein Alleinstellungsmal der Band, einmal abgesehen von gewissen Qualitäten, die ich hier weglassen muss, um nicht in den Ruch zu kommen, ein Chauvi zu sein. Was ich mir persönlich wünschen würde; Mädels, immer schön üben, damit auch die Liveauftritte das halten, was die Studiotracks versprechen – und damit meine ich wiederum nicht die visuellen Attribute.

What can one say, if the promotion and support in Switzerland is right, we will always bring a usable power metal band on stage. Even if the ensemble seems a bit cast – a metal girls band so to speak – on studio albums the five beauties always rock out, and on „Dancing With The Devil“ they also rock out a lot.
What I still miss is a unique selling point of the band, apart from certain qualities that I have to leave out here to avoid being a chauvinist. What I would personally wish for; girls, always practice well, so that the live performances keep what the studio tracks promise – and by that I don’t mean the visual attributes.
