VOLBEAT – „God OF Angels Trust“
Ich weiss nicht, was ich vom neuen Album der Dänen halten soll – abwechslungsreich ist es schon einmal.

Michael Poulsen und seine Jungs sind immer für eine Überraschung gut. So sind VOLBEAT dafür bekannt, dass sie die „härteste Partyband der Welt“ sind, gleichzeitig pflegt Fronter Poulsen als Sideproject seiner Leidenschaft für Deathmetal mit seiner Band ASINHELL.
Nach seiner Deathmetalvergangenheit bei DOMINUS schlug er mit VOLBEAT einen ganz anderen Weg ein. Ursprünglich stark vom Rockabilly geprägt, wurden die Alben von Mal zu Mal härter und blieben trotzdem melodisch, tanzbar. Mittlerweile haben die Dänen diverse Hits geprägt, an der Spitze wohl ihre Hymne „Vor Ewig“.
Und was bringt nun die neueste Scheibe? Wie gesagt, ich bin zwiegespalten. Ihre Vorabsingle „Time Will Heal“ vermochte mich nicht zu packen, ist mir zu mittelmässig, ohne Ecken und Kanten.
Ganz anders dann „Demonic Depression“, ein im besten Sinn typischer VOLBEAT-Song der neueren Generation, schnell, hart und mit melodischen Parts. Oder dann diese „Countrynummer“ mit dem unmöglichen Titel „In the Barn of the Goat Giving Birth to Satan’s Spawn in a Dying World of Doom“. Poulsen hat eine wandelbare Stimme, hier ist er ELVIS himself und vermischt Rock’n’Roll mit Metal – Elvis Metal sozusagen. Den Song finde ich witzig und in guter VOLBEAT-Manier abwechslungsreich.
Fazit
Ich halte mich nicht damit auf, hier jeden Track zu besprechen – schliesslich ist das Album ja auch schon draussen. Insgesamt ist es für mich ein eher durchschnittliches VOLBEAT-Album, der richtige Kracher fehlt mir. Insgesamt ist es aber abwechslungsreich und zeigt die Facetten, welche VOLBEAT auszeichnen. Kaufen kann man sich das Ding aber auf jeden Fall!

Michael Poulsen and his boys are always good for a surprise. VOLBEAT are known for being the ‘hardest party band in the world’, while frontman Poulsen pursues his passion for death metal with his side project ASINHELL.
After his death metal past with DOMINUS, he struck out in a completely different direction with VOLBEAT. Originally heavily influenced by rockabilly, the albums became harder and harder with each release, yet remained melodic and danceable. The Danes have now had several hits, the most notable being their anthem ‘Vor Ewig’.
So what does the latest album have to offer? As I said, I’m torn. Their advance single ‘Time Will Heal’ didn’t grab me; it’s too mediocre for my taste, with no rough edges.
‘Demonic Depression’ is completely different, a typical VOLBEAT song of the newer generation in the best sense of the word: fast, hard and with melodic parts. Or then there’s this ‘country number’ with the impossible title ‘In the Barn of the Goat Giving Birth to Satan’s Spawn in a Dying World of Doom’. Poulsen has a versatile voice, here he is ELVIS himself, mixing rock ‘n’ roll with metal – Elvis metal, so to speak. I find the song funny and, in good VOLBEAT fashion, varied.
Conclusion
I won’t bother discussing every track here – after all, the album is already out. Overall, I think it’s a rather average VOLBEAT album; I’m missing that one real hit. But overall, it’s varied and shows the facets that make VOLBEAT stand out. Definitely worth buying!
