Niclas Engelin und Jesper Strömblad an den Gitarren, Mikael Stanne am Mikrofon, Peter Iwers am Bass und Daniel Svensson an der Batteria – das sind HALO EFFECT, die sich aufmachen, den Markt der melodischen Death Metal Bands aufzumischen. Das wird nicht direkt einfach, tummeln sich hier doch Schwergewichte wie AMON AMARTH, ARCH ENEMY oder AMORPHIS. Nicht zu vergessen OMNIUM GATHERUM, IN FLAMES, CHILDREN OF BODOM und weitere. eines ist klar, der Karpfenteich ist schon ziemlich voll und es fragt sich, ob es wirklich eine weitere Band braucht – und ob die überhaupt Anrecht auf einen Platz in dieser illustren Gilde hat.

Immerhin haben die Schweden, welche sich der Göteborger Schule zuordnen, zehn Tracks auf den Longplayer gepresst und Nuclear Blast hat sie unter Vertrag genommen. Die Göteborger Schule ist übrigens sowas wie die Melodic Death Metal Universität.
Zum ersten – technisch und musikalisch brauchen die Jungs den Vergleich mit grossen Namen nicht zu fürchten. Zum Zweiten spielen sie eher in der „sanften“ Abteilung des Genres – sprich sehr melodisch. Das ist natürlich kein Fehler, sondern lediglich eine Einordnung. Was man zudem sagen kann – das Album ist ein verfluchtes Debut, und da habe ich schon massiv unreifere Sachen auf dem Tisch gehabt.
Mir Vorreden halten sich die Jungs schon mal nicht auf. Wie gesagt, ich empfinde sie eher als sanft – etwa im Vergleich zu AA und AE – hingegen bedeutet das nicht, dass die Jungs keine Kracher schreiben könnten – das zeigen sie bereits beim zweiten Track auf dem Album; der Titelsong „Days Of The Lost“ knallt, auch der folgende Track „The Needless End“ – also eigentlich alle. Eigentlich knallt das ganze Album – und ist trotzdem in einer Hinsicht „sanft“. Nicht, dass die Band die Growls vermeiden würde oder die Riffings und Drums nicht fett wären – auf keinen Fall. Aber die Melodiosität durchzieht die gesamte Scheibe – und macht sie damit zu einer Art Einstiegsdroge für Genreneulinge. Einigen gestandenen Fans der melodischen Todesmusik dürfte die Scheibe zu wenig hart sein, Naja, schliesslich muss ja nicht jeder Longplayer eine Abrissbirne sein, die alles in Grund und Boden fetzt.

Fazit

Was mir nicht gelingen mag; Anspieltipps. Es gibt tatsächlich zu viele gute Tracks, so richtig fällt keiner ab. Was mir noch etwas fehlt – das Alleinstellungsmerkmal. Ich höre noch zu viel Anlehnung an bekanntere Bands der oberen Aufzählung. Das Riffing erinnert mich an Olavi Mikkonen oder die Herren Loomis und Amott. Das ist kein Nachteil, aber hier dürften noch einige Ecken und Kanten dazukommen, welche dazu führen, dass man auf Anhieb sagen kann; das ist THE HALO EFFECT. Auf die Frage nach dem Erwerb der Platte gibt es hingegen nur eine Antwort – auf jeden Fall kaufen!

After all, the Swedes, who classify themselves as belonging to the Gothenburg School, have pressed ten tracks onto the long player and Nuclear Blast has signed them. The Gothenburg School, by the way, is something like the Melodic Death Metal University.
First – technically and musically, the guys do not need to fear the comparison with big names. Secondly, they play rather in the „soft“ department of the genre – speak very melodic. Of course, this is not a mistake, but just a classification. What can be said moreover – the album is a cursed debut, and there I have already had massively immature things on the table.
The guys already do not keep me prefaces. As I said, I find them rather gentle – for example in comparison to AA and AE – on the other hand, that doesn’t mean that the guys can’t write bangers – they already show that on the second track on the album; the title track „Days Of The Lost“ bangs, also the following track „The Needless End“ – so actually all of them. Actually, the whole album bangs – and is still „gentle“ in one respect. Not that the band avoids growls or that the riffing and drums aren’t fat – by any means. But the melodiousness pervades the entire disc – making it something of a gateway drug for newcomers to the genre. Some seasoned fans of melodic death music might find the disc too little hard, Well, after all, not every long player has to be a wrecking ball that shreds everything to the ground.

Conclusion

What I don’t like to succeed; play tips. There are actually too many good tracks, so really none falls off. What is still missing something for me – the unique selling point. I still hear too much borrowing from more famous bands of the upper list. The riffing reminds me of Olavi Mikkonen or Messrs. Loomis and Amott. This is not a disadvantage, but there should be some more edges here, which lead to the fact that you can say right away; this is THE HALO EFFECT. On the other hand, there is only one answer to the question about the purchase of the record – definitely buy!
