Ich habe ja das Debut von 2024 schon abgefeiert. Kann der Nachfolger die hohen Erwartungen erfüllen?

MY MERRY MACHINE sind nach wie vor ein Trio, seit 2018 gemeinsam unterwegs und loten die Genregrenzen gnadenlos aus. Fronterin Kirsten Zahn-Massing steht zwar klar im Mittelpunkt, Markus Visser an Gitarre und Bass sowie Tim Schwarz an den Drums stehen ihr aber in nichts nach. Wie schon beim letzten Album macht die Band keine Gefangenen, halbe Sachen scheinen ihnen nicht zu liegen.
Zugrunde liegt dem Sound ein fettes Riffing an den Saiteninstrumenten, draufgepackt druckvoller, knackiger Drumsound.
Das Topping ist dann Kirstens wandelbare Stimme. Nach wie vor wechselt sie ohne Punkt und Komma zwischen Screams, Growls und Klargesang. Sie liefert die Mischung, welche eine „female fronted“ Melodic Death Metal Band braucht. Grosse Vorbilder wie ARCH ENEMY oder JINJER gibt es genügend, aber auch weniger bekannte Bands liefern hier erste Sahne Stimmen. Da gehört für mich etwa Stefanie Stuber von MISSION IN BLACK dazu oder eben Kirsten Zahn-Massing. Sie liefert nicht nur ordentlich Druck, sondern vor allem auch Variabilität. Mir gefällt ihr Klargesang besser als jener der MISSION IN BLACK – Fronterin, dafür erreicht diese im Growl mehr Druck, mehr Power. Man kann aber nicht alles haben.
Gibt es auf dem Album „das-musst-du-gehört-haben“-Tracks? Wenn nicht, gäbe ich der Scheibe nicht neun brennende Kopfhörer. „From Another World“ gehört auf jeden Fall dazu. Ein Sledgehammer ist auf jeden Fall „God Of Destruction“, keine Schnörkel, einfach fetter, schneller Deathmetal, einzig etwas entlastet durch die Clear-Passagen. Gut gefällt mir auch die Powerballade „Funeral March“, eher unerwartet auf diesem Bretterhaufen von Album. Als solche kündigt sich auch „In The End“ an, mutiert dann aber innert Sekunden zu einem Death-Brecher.
Fazit
„Days Of Doom“ ist ein Klassealbum, noch einmal kompakter als der Vorgänger, musikalisch noch abwechslungsreicher. Wer melodischen Todesmetall mag, macht nichts falsch, wenn er meiner Empfehlung folgt; kaufen!

Together in 2018, they mercilessly explore the boundaries of the genre. Frontwoman Kirsten Zahn-Massing is clearly the centre of attention, but Markus Visser on guitar and bass and Tim Schwarz on drums are in no way inferior to her. As on their last album, the band takes no prisoners; half measures don’t seem to suit them.
The sound is based on fat riffs on the string instruments, topped with a powerful, crisp drum sound.
The icing on the cake is Kirsten’s versatile voice. As before, she switches seamlessly between screams, growls and clean vocals. She delivers the mix that a female-fronted melodic death metal band needs. There are plenty of great role models such as ARCH ENEMY and JINJER, but lesser-known bands also deliver top-notch vocals. For me, Stefanie Stuber from MISSION IN BLACK and Kirsten Zahn-Massing are among them. She not only delivers plenty of power, but also, above all, versatility. I prefer her clean vocals to those of the MISSION IN BLACK frontwoman, but the latter achieves more pressure and power in her growls. You can’t have everything.
Are there any „must-hear“ tracks on the album? If not, I wouldn’t give the album nine burning headphones. „From Another World“ is definitely one of them. „God Of Destruction“ is definitely a sledgehammer, no frills, just fat, fast death metal, only slightly relieved by the clear passages. I also really like the power ballad „Funeral March“, which is rather unexpected on this pile of boards of an album. „In The End“ starts out as such, but then mutates into a death metal smash hit within seconds.
Conclusion
„Days Of Doom“ is a great album, even more compact than its predecessor and musically even more varied. If you like melodic death metal, you can’t go wrong if you follow my recommendation: buy it!
