Power Metal muss nicht immer wie SABATON oder oder POWERWOLF klingen – es darf auch modern und anspruchsvoll sein.

Jepp, ich mache mich erneut unbeliebt bei den Fans von SABATON und POWERWOL – den Ärger jener von DRAGON FORCE könnte ich auch noch auf mich ziehen. Aber sorry; ich habe schon so viele Alben der drei Bands gehört, sie so oft live gesehen, dass ich mit gutem Gewissen sagen kann, dass sie zwar die Speerspitze des Genres ausmachen – spannend sind sie schon länger nicht mehr.
Seitenhieb fertig, hin zu einer modernen Ausprägung des Genres.
Bastian Rose | Vocals, Keys, Philipp Schönle | Guitar, Ben Galster | Guitar, Andreas Armbruster | Bass und Ralf Nopper | Drums – diese fünf Jungs sind verantwortlich für den Hammersound aus dem süddeutschen Raum. Dass good old Germany guten Metal zu bieten hat, ist hinlänglich bekannt. Es sind schon beinahe Armeen von geilen Truppen, welche diesen Markt seit Dekaden aufmischen.
Mit VANISH schlägt eine Band auf, die definitiv auf die grossen Bühnen gehört. Die notwendigen Ingredienzen sind vorhanden – eine solide Rhythmus-Fraktion, mehr als gute Gitarrenarbeit und eine kraftvolle Stimme, die für den Wiedererkennungswert sorgt.
Philipp Schönle und Ben Galster schenken sich nichts, spielen Riffs und Soli, die frisch und modern klingen – ohne die Tradition guten Powermetals zu verleugnen. Klar, niemnd erfindet heute ein Riff neu, irgendwie ist in der Musik schon alles mindestens einmal gespielt worden – und dennoch gibt es neue Klänge. Bei VANISH mögen es die zarten Parts geben, die wie zufällig eingestreut wirken („Act Live Resolve“), Powerballaden wie „The Crossing“ oder „As Though The Dead Are Here“ oder der erzählerische Titelsong „A Hint Of Solace“ – den man übrigens auch als Opener hätte einsetzen können. Sowas kennen wir ja von vielen Metalalben, beispielsweise bei ELUVEITIE. Na gut, andere Fraktion…
Klar fehlen auch die Bretter nicht, die gnadenlosen Riffs und das trockene Hämmern der Drums und über allem die geniale Stimme von Bastian Rose. Beispiel gefällig? Mein Lieblingstrack auf dem Album ist „Black Elation“ – braucht es noch Worte, um zu definieren, was ich mit modern, frisch und kraftvoll meine? Hören sich POWERWOLF und Co. noch so an? Müssen sie natürlich nicht, wäre aber manchmal schon schön…
Fazit
Klar, es braucht keinen wettbewerbsorientierten Vergleich zwischen Bands – aber man darf ja schon einmal neuen Stoff dem etablierten Sound zur Seite stellen. Wenn VANISH nur die Hälfte ihrer Albumpower auf die Bühnen bringen, freue ich mich auf die erste Gelegenheit, die Band auf der Bühne zu sehen. Kaufen? Was für eine unsinnige Frage – das Album gehört in eine Metalsammlung, die ernst genommen werden will!

Yep, once again I make myself unpopular with the fans of SABATON and POWERWOL – the anger of those of DRAGON FORCE I could also draw on myself. But sorry; I have already heard so many albums of the three bands, seen them live so often, that I can say with a clear conscience that they may be the spearhead of the genre – but they have not been exciting for a long time. Side blow finished, towards a modern expression of the genre.
Bastian Rose | Vocals, Keys, Philipp Schönle | Guitar, Ben Galster | Guitar, Andreas Armbruster | Bass and Ralf Nopper | Drums – these five guys are responsible for the hammer sound from southern Germany. It is well known that good old Germany has good metal to offer. There are almost armies of great bands that have been shaking up this market for decades.
VANISH is a band that definitely belongs on the big stages. The necessary ingredients are there – a solid rhythm section, more than good guitar work and a powerful voice that provides the recognition value.
Philipp Schönle and Ben Galster give nothing to each other, play riffs and solos that sound fresh and modern – without denying the tradition of good powermetal. Sure, nobody reinvents a riff today, somehow everything in music has already been played at least once – and yet there are new sounds. With VANISH there may be the delicate parts that seem to be randomly interspersed („Act Live Resolve“), power ballads like „The Crossing“ or „As Though The Dead Are Here“ or the narrative title track „A Hint Of Solace“ – which, by the way, could have been used as an opener. We know something like that from many metal albums, for example ELUVEITIE. Well, other faction…
Of course the boards are not missing, the merciless riffs and the dry hammering of the drums and above all the ingenious voice of Bastian Rose. Example pleasing? My favorite track on the album is „Black Elation“ – do I need words to define what I mean by modern, fresh and powerful? Do POWERWOLF and Co. still sound like that? Of course they don’t have to, but sometimes it would be nice…
Conclusion
Sure, there’s no need for a competitive comparison between bands – but it’s allowed to put new stuff next to the established sound. If VANISH bring only half of their album power to the stages, I’m looking forward to the first opportunity to see the band on stage. Buy? What a nonsensical question – the album belongs in a metal collection that wants to be taken seriously!
