Ob wir von Rocknews der Band 5 oder 10 von 10 möglichen Punkten geben, dürfte Frontfrau Lzzy Hale und ihren Jungs ziemlich am A… vorbeigehen. Längst spielt die Band in Sphären, in welchen ein Schweizer Webzine keine überragende Rolle mehr spielt.
Alle grossen Rockmagazine haben die Alben der Band besprochen, in Radio und TV sind die Amis längst Stammgäste. Schliesslich hat die Band schon diverse Preise abgeräumt, nicht zuletzt einen Grammy.
Ich sag’s trotzdem – das Album ist bereits meine Nummer 1 von 2022 – genreübergreifend wie die Musik der Band. Klar, da werden noch andere grosse Frauenstimmen kommen – Alissa White Gluz und ARCH ENEMY zum Beispiel – aber das ist eben eine andere Baustelle.
Was die beiden Frauen gemeinsam haben? Grossartige Stimmen, welche einen unheimlichen Range an Stimmlagen und Möglichkeiten abbilden. Es ist leider schon eine Weile her, seit ich die Band live gesehen habe. Damals im Zürcher Hallenstadion als Support von Mark Tremonti und Myles Kennedy’s ALTER BRIDGE. Fuck, das ist schon beinahe 10 Jahre her!
Was geblieben ist – die Erinnerung an eine enorme Power und die Sicherheit, dass diese Band irgendwann von Tremonti/Kennedy supportet werden könnte. Heute ist es soweit, dass HALESTORM zumindest als Co-Headliner mit den Jungs auf der Bühnen stehen würde…
Was zeichnet das neue Album so aus, dass es mein persönlicher Favorit des Jahres sein wird – obwohl erst März ist?
In erster Linie ist das Album unfassbar powervoll, in zweiter Linie bildet es eine musikalische Breite ab, welche grosse Scheiben auszeichnet.
Beispiele gefällig?
Da wäre zum Einen der Titeltrack „Back From The Dead“. Schlicht und einfach ein Brett, eine Abrissbirne, eine Soundwalze. Vorsicht, soviel Energie verträgt nicht jeder!
„My Redemption“ – taucht man tief in die Fischgründe des Metalcore ein. Dieselben Breakdowns und knüppelharten Drums, wie wir sie von grossen Vertretern dieses Genres gewohnt sind. Und trotzdem lässt sich die Band hier nicht einreihen, das Bett ist zu eng.
Im folgenden Song „Bombshell“ liefern sie ein Machwerk, das starke Industrial-Elemente bietet – und wirklich wie eine verdammte Bombe einschlägt!
Auf der anderen Seite „The Steeple“, eine Art Power Ballade, auf jeden Fall ein episches Stück Musik. „The Steeple“ fährt dir direkt in die Eingeweide, du kannst den Druck dieses Tracks gar nicht anders bewältigen, als aus dem Bauch heraus. Diesen Song muss ich so bald als möglich live hören, bei voller Power aus der ersten Reihe!
Dann ist da noch „Raise Your Horns“, mehr als nur eine Ballade.
Verdammt, die Frau klingt so gut wie eine Adèle – und das ist ein fucking Kompliment. Schliesslich ist die Pop-Ikone in erster Linie eine geniale Sängerin. Und genau das ist Lzzy Hale auch. Ihr Charisma und ihre Dynamik bringen „Raise Your Horns“ zum Klingen, zum Strahlen, zum Abheben! Da sind die ruhigen Passagen in den tieferen Stimmlagen, leicht rauchig, unheimlich erotisch. Aber bald schwingt sie sich hoch, durchstösst mit ihren Hörnern die Wolkendecke.
Spätestens mit diesem Track hat mich die Band voll am Wickel – wenn das nicht die Überballade wird, weiss ich auch nicht. Ich kann den Track auf jeden Fall immer und immer wieder hören – ohne dass auch nur der Hauch von so etwas wie Langeweile am Horizon auftauchten würde. Grandios!
Fazit
Was soll ich sagen? Nochmals; das wird das beste Album des Genres. Eine geniale Stimme, die von Album zu Album zu wachsen scheint und eine grossartige Band, welche das Fundament sicherstellt, damit diese Stimme den Olymp erklingen kann.
Wer sich das Ding nicht schnappt, ist sowas von selber schuld. „Back From The Dead“ gehört in jede Musiksammlung – Kaufen!

Whether we at Rocknews give the band 5 or 10 out of a possible 10 points should be of no concern to frontwoman Lzzy Hale and her boys. The band has long been playing in spheres in which a Swiss webzine no longer plays a major role.
All the big rock magazines have reviewed the band’s albums, and the Americans have long been regulars on radio and TV. After all, the band has already won various awards, not least a Grammy.
I’ll say it anyway – the album is already my number 1 of 2022 – across genres like the band’s music. Sure, there are other great female voices to come – Alissa White Gluz and ARCH ENEMY for example – but that’s another story.
What do the two women have in common? Great voices, which represent an incredible range of vocal styles and possibilities. Unfortunately, it’s been a while since I’ve seen the band live. Back then in Zurich’s Hallenstadion as support for Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy’s ALTER BRIDGE. Fuck, that’s almost 10 years ago!
What has remained – the memory of enormous power and the certainty that this band could be supported by Tremonti/Kennedy at some point. Today it’s to the point that HALESTORM would at least be co-headlining with these guys on stage…
What makes the new album so special that it will be my personal favourite of the year – even though it’s only March?
First and foremost, the album is incredibly powerful, and secondly, it displays a musical breadth that distinguishes great albums.
Examples?
For one thing, there’s the title track „Back From The Dead“. Simply a board, a wrecking ball, a sound roller. Be careful, not everyone can take that much energy!
„My Redemption“ – you dive deep into the fishing grounds of metalcore. The same breakdowns and bludgeoning drums we are used to from great representatives of this genre. And yet the band doesn’t let itself be pigeonholed here, the bed is too narrow.
In the following song „Bombshell“ they deliver a doozy that offers strong industrial elements – and really hits like a fucking bomb!
On the other side „The Steeple“, a kind of power ballad, definitely an epic piece of music. „The Steeple“ drives right into your guts, you can’t handle the pressure of this track any other way than from the gut. I need to hear this song live as soon as possible, at full power from the front row!
Then there’s „Raise Your Horns“, more than just a ballad.
Damn, the woman sounds as good as an Adèle – and that’s a fucking compliment. After all, the pop icon is first and foremost a brilliant singer. And that’s exactly what Lzzy Hale is. Her charisma and dynamism make „Raise Your Horns“ ring, shine, take off!
There are the quiet passages in the lower vocal registers, slightly smoky, eerily erotic. But soon she swings up, pierces the cloud cover with her horns. With this track at the latest, the band has me completely hooked – if this doesn’t become the over-ballad, I don’t know what will. In any case, I can listen to this track over and over again – without even a hint of boredom on the horizon. Grandiose!
conclusion
What can I say? Again; this is going to be the best album 2022 of the genre. A brilliant voice that seems to grow from album to album and a great band that ensures the foundation for this voice to ring out the Olympus.
If you don’t grab this thing, it’s so your own fault. „Back From The Dead“ belongs in every music collection – buy it!
