FIRE ACTION – „Until The Heat Dies“ kommt am 29. November 24

Definitiv keine Newcomer, so richtig durchstarten konnten die finnischen Rocker bisher noch nicht – gelingt ihnen das mit dem neuen Album *Until The Heat Dies“?

Als Hardrockband hat man es schwer. Einerseits gibt es davon so richtig viele, andererseits sind viele der Kulttruppen aus den Achtzigern und Neunzigern noch unterwegs, erfreuen sich grosser Beliebtheit und bringen auch noch neues, kraftvolles Material.

Wie schlagen sich die finnischen Rocker von FIRE ACTION mit ihrem neuen Album auf diesem grossen Schlachtfeld der Eitelkeiten?
Möglicherweise hilft es, bei einem bedeutenden Label wie dem deutschen Steamhammer/SPV unter Vertrag genommen zu werden? Es ist sicher kein Nachteil, weil es eine gewisse Sicherheit gibt und Türen öffnet. Was auch hilft: musikalische Entwicklung, mehr Qualität als bisher. Die drei Vorgängeralben waren nett – nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Oder man wechselt das Genre?
Was aber leisten Pete Ahonen – Vocals, Juri Vuortama – Guitars, Jarkko Poussu – Bass und Samuli Häkkilä – Drums musikalisch? Ich kenne die Vorgängeralben nur flüchtig, habe einmal reingehört und muss sagen, „Until The Heat Dies“ ist eine deutliche Steigerung! Ob sich das an einzelnen Tracks festmachen lässt? Jein. Es gibt Hookliner wie etwa „No Drone Zone“ mit seinem sehr melodischen Refrain oder die Powerballade „Survive“. Da wäre dann auch noch der Track, dessen Gitarre mich gleich an MEAT LOAF erinnert hat und in welchem der Einstiegsscream richtig metallen klingt. Das ist also durchaus solide Arbeit, die ein fetziges Liveerlebnis verspricht.

Warum genau komme ich zum Urteil, dass die Truppe Hardrock spielt, obwohl sie selber ihren Sound Metal nennen? Es hat damit zu tun, dass die harten Passagen Versatzstücke bleiben, Teile von Tracks. Da gibt es keine Nummer, die den Metaller wegbläst, ihm seine lange Mähne vom Kopf reisst. Beispiel gefällig? „Incitement Of Insurrection“ liefert ein richtig geiles Metal-Solo, das man so mancher Powermetaltruppe gönnen würde – ansonsten ist der Track ein fetziges Rockarrangement. Wenn überhaupt Metal, würde ich die Jungs dem „sanfteren“ Powermetal zuordnen.
So bleibt es sehr solider Hardrock der kräftigeren Sorte.

Etwas, das hier nicht vergessen werden darf – die musikalische Steigerung hat viel mit dem gleichermassen charismatischen und begabten Fronter Pete Ahonen zu tun und damit, dass er sich mit Mastermind Juri Vuortama ideal ergänzt. Wenn ein guter Sänger auf einen guten Songschreiber und Gitarristen trifft, dann ist eine der Voraussetzungen erfüllt, um Erfolg zu haben.

Fazit

Im Zusammenhang mit Bands bemühe ich gerne das Alleinstellungsmerkmal. Im Hardrock und weiten Teilen des Metal ist das kaum mehr zu leisten. Was aber immer geht; man leistet Qualität, gute Arrangements, ein gelungenes Songwriting und eine stabile Zusammenarbeit innerhalb der Band und mit den Jungs vom Studio und vom Label.
Das scheint mir hier gelungen, der Erfolg sollte sich also beizeiten einstellen und das Album gekauft werden. Gekauft werden, klar?

Hard rock bands have it tough. On the one hand, there are so many of them, on the other hand, many of the cult bands from the eighties and nineties are still on the road, enjoying great popularity and still releasing new, powerful material.

How do the Finnish rockers FIRE ACTION fare with their new album on this great battlefield of vanities?
Maybe it helps to be signed to a major label like the German Steamhammer/SPV? It’s certainly not a disadvantage because it gives a certain security and opens doors. What also helps: musical development, more quality than before. The three previous albums were nice – no more and no less. Or do you change genre?
But what do Pete Ahonen – vocals, Juri Vuortama – guitars, Jarkko Poussu – bass and Samuli Häkkilä – drums achieve musically? I’ve only heard the previous albums once and have to say that ‘Until The Heat Dies’ is a clear improvement! Can this be attributed to individual tracks? Yes and no. There are hookliners like ‘No Drone Zone’ with its very melodic chorus or the power ballad ‘Survive’. Then there’s the track whose guitar immediately reminded me of MEAT LOAF and in which the opening scream sounds really metallic. So this is definitely solid work that promises a groovy live experience.

The guys look like evil metalheads, but they make pure hard rock…

Why exactly did I come to the conclusion that the band play hard rock, even though they themselves call their sound metal? It has to do with the fact that the hard passages remain set pieces, parts of tracks. There’s no number that blows the metalhead away, tears his long mane off his head. Want an example? ‘Incitement Of Insurrection’ delivers a really cool metal solo that you would treat many a power metal band to – otherwise the track is a groovy rock arrangement. If metal at all, I would categorise these guys as ‘softer’ power metal.
So it remains very solid hard rock of the more powerful kind.

Something that should not be forgotten here – the musical improvement has a lot to do with the equally charismatic and talented frontman Pete Ahonen and the fact that he complements mastermind Juri Vuortama perfectly. When a good singer meets a good songwriter and guitarist, then one of the prerequisites for success is fulfilled.

Conclusion

When talking about bands, I like to emphasise the unique selling point. In hard rock and large parts of metal, this is almost impossible to achieve. But what always works is quality, good arrangements, successful songwriting and a stable co-operation within the band and with the guys from the studio and the label.
That seems to have been achieved here, so success should come in time and the album should be bought. Be bought, right?
