CELTIC HILLS – „Huldufolk“ ist kein Aprilscherz
Es braucht eine Prise Humor, wenn man ein Album am 1. April veröffentlicht – CELTIC HILLS scheinen Humor zu haben.

Wenn man den Bandnamen und den Albumtitel hört, erwartet man irgendetwas mit Folkmetal, irgend so eine finnische Paganband vielleicht. Kennt man die Italiener von CELTIC HILLS jedoch von früheren Alben wie etwa „Mystai Keltoi“, weiss man, dass dem eher nicht so ist. Die Jungs definieren ihren Sound als Thrash/Speedmetal, was man akzeptieren kann.
Die Band setzt sich zusammen aus Jonathan Vanderbilt – Vocals and Guitars, Jacopo Novello – Bass und Simone Cescutti – Drums. Und allein die Tatsache, dass hier ein Trio aufspielt erstaunt angesichts der Power, welche die Band transportiert. Hören wir rein, was die Italiener auf dem neuen Album so zu bieten haben.
Mich überzeugt das mit dem Speed/Thrash Metal. Die Jungs können schnell und heftig – praktisch alle Tracks entsprechen den genretypischen Erwartungen. Hingegen findet sich auf der Scheibe mit „Living Out The Egg“ ein zumindest mit Folkelementen angereicherter Track. Es gibt davon gleich zwei Versionen, bei der einen übernimmt Simone Cescutti das Mikrofon, und er macht das nicht schlechter als Fronter Jonathan Vanderbilt.
Auch der Track „Villacher Kirktag“ wildert in Folkgefilden – es ist eine reinrassige Polka, welche die Jungs hier metallisch veredelt haben, KORPIKLAANI grüssen an dieser Stelle.
Ansonsten haben wir es mit einem Brecher zu tun, Gefangene werden nicht gemacht. Volle Kanne vorwärts, ohne viele Schnörkel oder progressive Sounds oder Verschnaufpausen.
Fazit
„Huldufolk“ ist ein Album, das dem Freund von Speedmetal gefallen wird, das jeder Headbanger abfeiern wird. Mir hat der Vorgänger besser gefallen, ich vermisse eine wirkliche Weiterentwicklung. Nichts desto trotz ist „Huldufolk“ eine runde Sache, ein solides Stück Musik, das man sich durchaus leisten darf.

When you hear the band name and the album title, you expect something with folk metal, some Finnish pagan band maybe. But if you know the Italians of CELTIC HILLS from earlier albums like „Mystai Keltoi“, you know that this is rather not the case. The guys define their sound as Thrash/Speedmetal, which is acceptable.
The band is composed of Jonathan Vanderbilt – Vocals and Guitars, Jacopo Novello – Bass and Simone Cescutti – Drums. And the fact alone that a trio is playing here is astonishing in view of the power that the band conveys. Let’s listen to what the Italians have to offer on the new album.
I’m convinced by the speed/thrash metal. The guys know how to be fast and heavy – practically all tracks meet the genre-typical expectations. On the other hand, there is at least one track on the disc with folk elements, „Living Out The Egg“. There are two versions of it, one with Simone Cescutti taking over the microphone, and he does not do worse than frontman Jonathan Vanderbilt.
The track „Villacher Kirktag“ also poaches in folk territory – it’s a thoroughbred polka, which the guys have refined metallically here, KORPIKLAANI greet you at this point.
Other than that, we’re dealing with a breaker, prisoners are not taken. Full steam ahead, without many flourishes or progressive sounds or breathers.
conclusion
„Huldufolk“ is an album that will please the friend of speedmetal, that every headbanger will celebrate. I liked the predecessor better, I miss a real further development. Nevertheless, „Huldufolk“ is a round thing, a solid piece of music that one can definitely afford.
