CASSIDY PARIS – „New Sensation“
Melodic Rock mit Frauenstimme: Eine neue Generation wächst nach.

Es gibt sie vor allem im Symphonic Metal Bereich (und da zuhauf): Die sogenannten „Female Fronted“ Kapellen. Im Rock respektive Melodic Rock oder AOR Bereich dagegen sind Bands mit Frauenstimme nach wie vor eher selten anzufinden. CHEZ KANE natürlich, VIOLET, die (alt) ehrwürdigen VIXEN und noch einige andere. Neu dazu kommt nun auch CASSIDY PARIS, welche nach ein einigen EPs nun ihren ersten Longplayer bei Frontier Records ans Volk bringen darf.
Die Anfangs 20er-in stammt aus Australien, wo sie bereits im jungen Alter angefangen hat, ihre Sporen abzuverdienen. Eine Bekanntschaft mit Paul Laine (vormals DANGER DANGER, nun THE DEFIANTS), der eine Art Mentorenrolle übernommen hat – jedoch nicht Teil der Band ist, auf dem Album aber Backing Vocals beigetragen hat. Teil der Band dagegen ist Cassidy’s Vater Steve Janevski, der ansonsten bei den Australiern WICKED SMILE die Saiten schwingt. Und natürlich – Cassidy ist ja bei Frontiers unter Vertrag – darf Allesandro Del Vecchio im Lineup nicht fehlen, der den Tieftöner und Keyboards beiträgt. Als ihre Einflüsse nennt Cassidy Rock-Damen wie Lizzy Hale, Joan Jett, aber auch Pink, Pat Benatar und Avril Lavigne. Nun aber genug des Namedroppings.
Mit „Danger“ Fängt der Longplayer vielversprechend an und ruft Erinnerungen an Acts wie VIXEN wach. Die klare Stimmfarbe von Cassidy bietet genügend Rotz in den härteren Passagen, um das Interesse nach mehr zu wecken. Ein solider Song, der Lust auf mehr macht. „Roll ’n‘ Roll Hearts“ nimmt dem anfänglichen Enthusiasmus bereits wieder etwas die Luft aus den Segeln. Nett, aber ohne grosse Ecken und Kanten, mit ganz leichten Country-Anleihen im Gesang. Mag mich nicht wirklich zu begeistern. Song Nummer drei ist die Power-Ballade „Here I Am“, welche der Rezeptur der klassischen 80er Power-Balladen folgt: Sanfter Einstieg, pompöser Refrain, ein Song, bei dem Cassidy ihre Stimme optimal einsetzen kann. Aber auch hier fehlt mir der letzte, zündende Funke, war halt alles irgendwie schon mal da. „Walking On Fire“ zieht das Tempo wieder ein wenig an. Das Stück mag mit einem eingängigen, knackigen Refrain zu begeistern. „On The Bright Side“, „Song For The Broken Hearted“, „Searching For A Hero“ folgen den bereits gehörten Mustern und setzen sich nicht grossartig von den anderen Songs ab, wobei „Song For The Broken Hearted“ ganz bestimmt live sehr viel Spass macht. Das Tempo wird nochmals etwas angezogen mit „Like I Never Loved You“, bevor es mit „Stand“ mit einer weiteren Power-Ballade weitergeht, die für mich im Vergleich mit „Here I Am“ besser punktet. Mit „Addicted“ – dem kürzesten Song des Albums der nochmals ordentlich Dampf gibt – und „Midnight Desire“ – das sich als sehr 80er und Keyboard lastiger Song positiv vom Rest abhebt – endet das Album nach knapp 40 Minuten und hinterlässt einen zwiespältigen Eindruck.
Fazit
Mit „New Sensation“ bringt CASSIDY PARIS ihr Debut unter die Leute. Die junge Australierin zeigt ganz klar, wohin sie einmal will, und dafür ist das Debut ein guter Anfang – aber eben auch nicht mehr. Die Songs sind solide, die Arbeit der Musiker ebenfalls, richtig mitreissen mag aber kaum einer der Songs. Dabei sind sie nicht schlecht, halt einfach nicht besonders einfallsreich. Die Songs ähneln sich in der Grundstimmung zu sehr, genau wie die Gesangslinien von Cassidy, welche als Sängerin einen tollen Job macht, für das ganz grosse Ding braucht es aber noch etwas mehr – Mut? Ich bin mir sicher, Cassidy und ihre Truppe können mehr, es scheint aber, als hätten sie für „New Sensation“ auf Nummer sicher gemacht. Mit ihren jungen Jahren hat CASSIDY PARIS aber noch gut 50 Jahre im Showbiz vor sich und viel Zeit, sich dahin zu entwickeln und die Songs abzuliefern, die „New Sensation“ im Ansatz bereits versprechen. Ich jedenfalls bin gespannt auf mehr!

They are particularly prevalent in the symphonic metal genre (and there are plenty of them): The so-called „female fronted“ bands. In rock, melodic rock or AOR, on the other hand, bands with female voices are still rather rare. CHEZ KANE of course, VIOLET, the (time-honoured) VIXEN and a few others. Now CASSIDY PARIS have joined the ranks and, after a few EPs, are now releasing their first longplayer on Frontier Records.
The early 20-something hails from Australia, where she started earning her spurs at a young age. An acquaintance with Paul Laine (formerly DANGER DANGER, now THE DEFIANTS), who has taken on a kind of mentoring role – although he is not part of the band, but has contributed backing vocals on the album. Cassidy’s father Steve Janevski, who otherwise plays the strings for the Australians WICKED SMILE, is part of the band. And of course – Cassidy is signed to Frontiers – Allesandro Del Vecchio should not be missing from the line-up, contributing bass and keyboards. Cassidy names rock ladies such as Lizzy Hale, Joan Jett, but also Pink, Pat Benatar and Avril Lavigne as her influences. But enough of the name-dropping.
The longplayer gets off to a promising start with „Danger“, evoking memories of acts like VIXEN. The clear vocal colour of Cassidy offers enough snot in the heavier passages to arouse interest for more. A solid song that leaves you wanting more. „Roll ’n‘ Roll Hearts“ takes some of the air out of the initial enthusiasm. Nice, but without any great rough edges, with very slight country borrowings in the vocals. Doesn’t really inspire me. Song number three is the power ballad „Here I Am“, which follows the formula of classic 80s power ballads: Gentle introduction, pompous chorus, a song in which Cassidy can use her voice to optimum effect. But here, too, I miss the final, igniting spark, everything has somehow been there before. „Walking On Fire“ picks up the tempo a little again. The song may inspire with a catchy, crisp chorus. „On The Bright Side“, „Song For The Broken Hearted“ and „Searching For A Hero“ follow the patterns we’ve already heard and don’t really stand out from the other songs, although „Song For The Broken Hearted“ is definitely a lot of fun live. The tempo picks up again with „Like I Never Loved You“, before continuing with „Stand“, another power ballad, which for me scores better in comparison with „Here I Am“. The album ends after almost 40 minutes with „Addicted“ – the shortest song on the album, which picks up the pace again – and „Midnight Desire“ – which stands out positively from the rest as a very 80s and keyboard-heavy song – and leaves an ambivalent impression.
Conclusion
With „New Sensation“, CASSIDY PARIS brings her debut to the public. The young Australian clearly shows where she wants to go, and her debut is a good start – but nothing more. The songs are solid, as is the work of the musicians, but hardly any of the songs are really captivating. They’re not bad, they’re just not particularly imaginative. The basic mood of the songs is too similar, just like the vocal lines of Cassidy, who does a great job as a singer, but for the really big thing it needs something more – courage? I’m sure Cassidy and her band can do more, but it seems as if they played it safe for „New Sensation“. At her young age, CASSIDY PARIS still has a good 50 years in showbiz ahead of her and plenty of time to develop and deliver the songs that „New Sensation“ already promises. I for one am looking forward to more!
