Ziemlich zentral bei diesem Sound ist der Drummer, hier Harry P. Ebenfalls im Druck und Rhythmus Bereich werkelt Basser Giusi, seit 2020 bei der Truppe. Die Gitarren bedienen James Mean und Horst Ick und das Mikrofongebrüll kommt vom Voicedoctor. Damit haben wir Leistungsausweis genug für eine Review. Auch wenn ich – zugegeben – nicht der allergrösste Fans dieser Genrekombination bin. Thrashmetalmässig bin ich eher bei METALLICA oder MEGADETH oder ANTHRAX und die ganze Hardcore-Geschichte liegt mir deutlich ferner als etwa Melodic Death Metal oder Metalcore, machmal auch als Post Hardcore bezeichnet. Dies einfach so zur Einordnung.

FUELED BY FEAR sind keine Unbekannten mehr. Die Schweizer haben schon an den verschiedensten Orten auf diesem Planeten gespielt, waren mit Bands wir FEAR FACTORY oder SEPULTURA und IN FLAMES unterwegs. Das zeigt dann auch kompromisslos auf, womit wir es hier zu tun haben; Thrashmetal mit Hardcore gemischt – as hard as can be quasi.

Bevor ich zur Musik komme, gleich meine erste Enttäuschung – das Cover. Die ersten drei Machwerke hatten grafisch aufwendige Cover, die extrem zur Härte der Band passten – das neue Cover würde ich eher „weiss-Gott-wem“ zuordnen. Macht mir keine Freude, hat aber nichts mit der Musik zu tun.
Die hingegen ist kompromisslos hart und setzt die musikalische Geschichte und Entwicklung der Band fort. So gesehen dürfte das Album die Erwartungen der Fans erfüllen und manchen Fan solcher Harteisen in die Arme der Schweizer Truppe treiben. Technisch gibt es überhaupt nichts zu meckern – die Jungs inklusive der Studiocrew verstehen ihr Handwerk. Auch das Songwriting erfüllt die Ansprüche des Genres. Wie gesagt, ich mag diese fast durchgehend hämmernden Drums nicht so gerne – vielleicht bin ich mittlerweile auch zu alt und zu weichgespült dafür. Einen Track jedoch gibt es, der mich überzeugt hat und mein Fave auf dem Album ist; „Awakening“. Kann man in diesem Genre von Hooklines sprechen? Falls ja, „We Are The Chosen Ones“ wäre dann so eine. Mir erscheint der Track sogar fast melodisch, obwohl die treibenden Drums und das Screaming am Mikrofon nicht fehlen.
Weiter habe ich versucht herauszufinden, warum „Death For You All“ zum Titeltrack gemacht wurde – den finde ich nämlich auch ganz nett 🤣🤣🤣. Es ist so eine Art Mitsinghymne mit ziemlich intensiver Gitarrenarbeit, fast schon ein Solo!

Fazit

Wie gesagt, das Genre ist nur bedingt meins. Darum lasse ich es auch, zu jedem Track meinen unqualifizierten Senf dazuzugeben. Nichts desto trotz ist das Album hochwertiges Material, das dem Fan von SEPULTURA und Co. Freude machen und somit nicht nur im CD-Schrank eingefleischter Fans glänzen dürfte. Für Fans dieser harten Gangart ist das ALbum ganz bestimmt eine Empfehlung – kaufen!

FUELED BY FEAR are no longer unknown. The Swiss have already played at various places on this planet, were on tour with bands like FEAR FACTORY or SEPULTURA and IN FLAMES. This uncompromisingly shows what we are dealing with here; thrash metal mixed with hardcore – as hard as can be quasi.
Quite central to this sound is the drummer, here Harry P. Also working in the pressure and rhythm area is bassist Giusi, with the band since 2020. The guitars are handled by James Mean and Horst Ick and the microphone roar comes from Voicedoctor. That’s enough proof of performance for a review. Even though I am – admittedly – not the biggest fan of this genre combination. Thrashmetal-wise I’m more into METALLICA or MEGADETH or ANTHRAX and the whole hardcore thing is much further away from me than Melodic Death Metal or Metalcore, sometimes also called Post Hardcore. Just to classify them.

Before I get to the music, immediately my first disappointment – the cover. The first three machinations had graphically elaborate covers that were extremely fitting to the hardness of the band – the new cover I would rather assign to „white-god-who“. I don’t enjoy it, but it has nothing to do with the music.
The music, on the other hand, is uncompromisingly hard and continues the band’s musical history and development. From this point of view, the album should fulfil the expectations of the fans and drive many a fan of such hard iron into the arms of the Swiss troupe. Technically, there is nothing to complain about – the guys including the studio crew know their craft. The songwriting also meets the demands of the genre. As I said, I don’t like these almost continuous hammering drums – maybe I’m too old and too soft for that by now. However, there is one track that convinced me and is my fave on the album; „Awakening“. Can you talk about hooklines in this genre? If so, „We Are The Chosen Ones“ would be one of them. To me, the track even seems almost melodic, although the driving drums and screaming on the mic are not absent.
Further, I tried to figure out why „Death For You All“ was made the title track – because I find that one quite nice too 🤣🤣🤣. It’s kind of a sing-along anthem with some pretty intense guitar work, almost a solo!

conclusion

As I said, the genre is only partly mine. That’s why I refrain from giving my unqualified opinion on every track. Nevertheless, the album is high quality material that will please the fan of SEPULTURA and Co. and thus should not only shine in the CD cupboard of die-hard fans. For fans of this hard style, the album is definitely a recommendation – buy it!
