Powermetal aus Italien zuhause bei Elevate Records

Die Formation des Power-Trios besteht aus Simone Cescutti am Schlagzeug, Jacopo Novello am Bass und Jonathan Vanderbilt an Gesang und Gitarren. Das Cover ist handgemalt von Sheila Franco, der gleichen Künstlerin, die auch Blood Over Intents gemalt hat, und stellt den Mythos der alten Besucher dar.

CELTIC HILLS wurden 2010 geboren, aber erst 2020 unterschreiben sie einen Plattenvertrag mit Elevate Records, mit denen sie 2020 das Album „Blood over Intents“ und die EP „Schrage Musik“ veröffentlichen. Jetzt erscheint „Mystai Keltoy“, produziert und aufgenommen von Michele Guaitoli, Sänger von TEMPERANCE, VISION OF ATLANTIS und ERA.

„Mystai Keltoy“ ist ein rätselhafter Name, der auf die Elusianischen Mysterien der Athener anspielt. Dabei geht es um ausserirdische Zivilisationen, europäische Pyramiden, Legenden und historische Fakten des Friauls , wie man schon am Albumcover erahnen kann. „Eden“ wird von Germana Noage gesungen, Ex-Sängerin von AETHERNA.
Bereits beim ersten Hören des Albums sind mir zwei Dinge aufgefallen; das Album ist nur schlecht einem Genre zuzuordnen und es ist sehr abwechslungsreich. Was das bedeutet? Einerseits finden sich Tracks zwischen Power- und Deathmetal ebenso wie Nummern, die man eher dem Symphonicmetal oder gar dem Hardrock zuordnen könnte. Das ist ein Wagnis, wenn es aber gelingt, ist es grossartig – CELTIC HILLS ist es gelungen.
Bereits der Opener „The Light“ zeigt, wo der musikalische Hammer hängt. Da wird gleich losgebrettert, Drums und Gitarre arbeiten in bester Powermetalmanier, wohingegen Sänger Vanderbilt von einer Hardrockstimme übergangslos in ein deathmetallisches Growlen wechselt.
Ebenfalls empfehlen kann ich den Track mit der Gastsängerin. Germana Noage, Ex-Fronterin von AETHERNA liefert den Song, den ich am ehesten in die keltisch-symphonische Metalecke stellen würde. „Temple Of Love“ klingt dagegen beinahe progressiv oder wie Classic Rock – inklusive Synthesizerfragmenten. „Battle Of Frigidium“ erinnert mich an Songs jener Schweden, welche weitherum als eine DER Powermetaltruppen gelten; SABATON. Dabei mag es Zufall sein, dass es gerade in diesem Track um eine Schlacht geht, oder?

Fazit

Ich habe den Italienern mit gutem Gewissen acht von zehn möglichen Punkten gegeben. Wer aufmerksam ist, hat übrigens bemerkt, dass wir ab heute wieder zur Zehnerskala bei den Reviews zurückgekehrt sind – und einem neuen Logo 😉
Das Albaum ist technisch sehr gut eingespielt, Songwriting und Musikalität sind kreativ und vielfältig, der Sound eindrücklich knackig, wenn man bedenkt, dass hier „nur“ ein Trio am Start ist. Meine Empfehlung – das Friaul unterstützen und die Scheibe erwerben!

The formation of the power trio consists of Simone Cescutti on drums, Jacopo Novello on bass and Jonathan Vanderbilt on vocals and guitars. The cover is hand-painted by Sheila Franco, the same artist who painted Blood Over Intents, and depicts the myth of the ancient visitors.

CELTIC HILLS were born in 2010, but it wasn’t until 2020 that they signed a record deal with Elevate Records, with whom they released the album „Blood over Intents“ and the EP „Schrage Musik“ in 2020. Now „Mystai Keltoy“ is released, produced and recorded by Michele Guaitoli, singer of TEMPERANCE, VISION OF ATLANTIS and ERA.

„Mystai Keltoy“ is an enigmatic name that alludes to the Elusian Mysteries of the Athenians. It is about extraterrestrial civilisations, European pyramids, legends and historical facts of Friuli , as you can already guess from the album cover. „Eden“ is sung by Germana Noage, ex-vocalist of AETHERNA.
Already at the first listening of the album two things struck me; the album is difficult to assign to a genre and it is very varied. What does that mean? On the one hand, there are tracks between power and death metal as well as numbers that could rather be assigned to symphonic metal or even hard rock. This is a risk, but when it succeeds, it is great – CELTIC HILLS have succeeded.
The opener „The Light“ shows where the musical hammer is hanging. Drums and guitar work in best power metal manner, whereas singer Vanderbilt changes from a hard rock voice to a death metal growl without any transition.
I can also recommend the track with the guest singer. Germana Noage, ex-frontwoman of AETHERNA, delivers the song that I would most likely place in the Celtic-symphonic metal corner. „Temple Of Love“, on the other hand, sounds almost progressive or like classic rock – including synthesiser fragments. „Battle Of Frigidium“ reminds me of songs by those Swedes who are widely regarded as one of THE power metal groups; SABATON. It might be a coincidence that this track is about a battle, isn’t it?

conclusion

I gave the Italians eight points out of a possible ten with a clear conscience. By the way, those who are attentive have noticed that as of today we have returned to the scale of ten for reviews – and a new logo 😉
The Albaum is technically very well-rehearsed, songwriting and musicality are creative and diverse, the sound impressively crisp, considering that there is „only“ a trio at work here. My recommendation – support Friuli and buy the disc!
