Ich mag NIGHTWISH live, da sind sie schlicht eine Institution. Sie schaffen coole Atmosphären und können mit Publikum umgehen, sei das in Clubs wie dem Z7 oder auf grossen Bühnen wie WACKEN oder SUMMERBREEZE. Floor Jansen | Vocals, Tuomas Holopainen | Keys, Emppu Vuorinen | Guitars, Jukka Koskinen | Basses, Troy Donockley | Uilleann Pipes, Low Whistles, Acoustic & Electric Guitars, Bouzouki, Bodhrán, Aerophone, Vocalsund Kai Hahto | Drums & Percussion – ihnen braucht man nicht beizubringen, wie man die Zuhörerinnen und Zuschauerinnen packt und erfreut.

Ach ja, der Rasenmäher; das kam mir gleich zu Beginn des Titeltracks in den Sinn – hat aber keinen Einfluss auf die SCheibe und eignete sich einfach gut als Teaser zur Review…
Dass sie musikalisch-technisch nahezu perfekt sind, beweisen sie ebenfalls auf jedem Album neu. Lange haben sich die Fans gegrämt, als TARJA TURUNEN 2005 die Band verliess oder verlassen musste. Das ist ja immer dieselbe Diskussion, welchen Einfluss Tuomas Holopainen jeweils ausübt, wieviel Macht er in Händen hat. Mit ANETTE OLZON stieg die für mich bisher sympatischte Sängerin bei der Band ein. Nach ihrem Ausstieg wurde FLOOR JANSEN 2013 neue Sängerin, ist mittlerweile bereits mehr als ein Jahrzehnt dabei. Schaut man sich jedoch die Geschichte der Wechsel an, wäre sie eigentlich fällig…

„Yesterwynde“ heisst das neue, zehnte Studiowerk, das kommenden Freitag erscheint.
Tuomas Holopainen dazu: „„Yesterwynde ist eine fantastische Reise durch die Zeit, die Erinnerung und die besseren Engel der menschlichen Natur. Nach drei Jahren Arbeit sind wir überglücklich, unser zehntes Album bald mit der Welt teilen zu können!““
Rechtfertigt die Scheibe die lange Zeit, die es dauerte, bis das Album fertig war? Für die Fans auf jeden Fall, für Freunde des epischen, melodiösen Metal wohl auch. Aus diesem Grund gebe ich dem Album auch neun von zehn Punkten. Wo NIGHTWISH draufsteht, ist auch NIGHTWISH drin. Warum der Abzug? Weil ich als Nicht-Fan mit einigem Abstand auf den Silberling schaue, frage ich mich; was unterscheidet das Album von früheren? Ist es besser, zeigt es eine Entwicklung, überrascht es mich? Bedingt. „Yesterwynde“ reiht sich ein in eine Reihe guter Alben, vom einen zum anderen Machwerk entwickeln sich Bands eigentlich immer – nur hört oder merkt man es nicht immer. Das trifft hier auf mich zu, und die Fans werden denken: „Der weiss es einfach nicht besser, realisiert die Feinheiten nicht.“ Das mag der Tatsache entsprechen. Tatsächlich ist es für eine Band mit diesem Erkennungswert schwierig und oft unerwünscht, sich völlig neu zu positionieren, neu zu erfinden. Soweit alles gut. Ich mag AMON AMARTH auch weiterhin, wenn ein neues Album von Viking-Metal strotzt – wie auch die vorherigen.

Fazit

Wie gesagt; „Yesterwynde“ ist ein sehr gutes Album, dicht und musikalisch hochstehend, eine typische NIGHTWISH – Scheibe. Was mir fehlt, war eine Überraschung, irgendein Goodie, das ich so nicht erwartet hätte. Trotzdem, das Album kann und sollte man sich zulegen, auch wenn man kein eingefleischter Fan der Band ist – kaufen!

I like NIGHTWISH live, they are simply an institution. They create cool atmospheres and know how to handle an audience, be it in clubs like Z7 or on big stages like WACKEN or SUMMERBREEZE. Floor Jansen | Vocals, Tuomas Holopainen | Keys, Emppu Vuorinen | Guitars, Jukka Koskinen | Basses, Troy Donockley | Uilleann Pipes, Low Whistles, Acoustic & Electric Guitars, Bouzouki, Bodhrán, Aerophone, Vocalsand Kai Hahto | Drums & Percussion – you don’t need to teach them how to grab and delight the audience.
Oh yes, the lawnmower; that came to mind right at the beginning of the title track – but it has no influence on the songs and was simply a good teaser for the review…
They also prove that they are almost perfect musically and technically on every album. For a long time, fans were furious when TARJA TURUNEN left the band in 2005. It’s always the same discussion about how much influence Tuomas Holopainen exerts, how much power he has in his hands. With ANETTE OLZON, the most likeable singer for me so far joined the band. After she left, FLOOR JANSEN became the new singer in 2013 and has now been with the band for more than a decade. However, if you look at the history of the changes, she would actually be due…

‘Yesterwynde’ is the name of the new, tenth studio album, which will be released next Friday. 
Tuomas Holopainen comments: ‘Yesterwynde is a fantastic journey through time, memory and the better angels of human nature. After three years of work, we are overjoyed to share our tenth album with the world soon!’
Does the disc justify the long time it took to complete the album? It certainly does for the fans, and for fans of epic, melodic metal. That’s why I give the album nine out of ten points. If it says NIGHTWISH on it, it’s NIGHTWISH inside. Why the deduction? Because, as a non-fan, I look at the disc with some distance, I ask myself; what distinguishes the album from earlier ones? Is it better, does it show a development, does it surprise me? Conditionally. ‘Yesterwynde’ is part of a series of good albums, bands always develop from one work of art to the next – you just don’t always hear or realise it. That applies to me here, and fans will think: ‘He just doesn’t know any better, doesn’t realise the subtleties.’ That may be true. In fact, it is difficult and often undesirable for a band with this recognisable value to completely reposition itself, to reinvent itself. All good so far. I still like AMON AMARTH when a new album is bursting with Viking metal – just like the previous ones.

Conclusion

As I said; ‘Yesterwynde’ is a very good album, dense and musically high quality, a typical NIGHTWISH disc. What I was missing was a surprise, some goodie that I hadn’t expected. Nevertheless, you can and should buy the album, even if you’re not a die-hard fan of the band – buy it!
