ALL FOR METALs zweites Studioalbum, „Gods Of Metal (Year Of The Dragon)“, ist seit vergangener Woche draussen – mehr als ein Hype?

Jepp, wir vergeben keine halben Punkte, sonst hätte ich der Scheibe 9.5 Punkte gegeben – oder doch nicht?
Zum Einen ist das, was da auf uns zurollt, ein ganz schön heisses Stück Metal – und das von einer Band, die es seit zwei Jahren gibt – Gods Of Metal – „Year Of The Dragon“ ist nicht ihr Debut, sondern nach „Legends“ bereits das zweite Album.
Das Lineup beeindruckt mit bekannten Namen und einer Gastsängerin – die ich persönlich ja nicht so beeindruckend finde. Tetzel | Gesang, Antonio Calanna | Gesang, Jasmin Pabst | Gitarre, Ursula Zanichelli | Gitarre, Florian Toma | Bass, Leif Jensen | Schlagzeug, Christina Schulz und Luisa Lohöfer | Showgirls.
Ach ja, die Gastsängerin ist Frau Goldemund von den BURNING WITCHES. Da beeindruckt mich der zweite Gast, Gitarrist Tim Kanoa Hansen schon eher. Der junge Gitarrist hat einerseits einen nicht ganz unbekannten Vater – Kai Hansen als Gitarrist von HELLOWEEN und GAMMA RAY – und andererseits ein Talent, das zumindest schon in Vaters Höhe schwebt. Eindrücklich, wenn man bedenkt, dass er erst 25 Jahre alt ist.

Aber zurück zu ALL FOR METAL und ihrem neuen Album. Einen guten Griff haben die Jungs und Mädels von REIGNING PHOENIX schon gemacht – die Band verspricht gute Live-Performance und weiss, wie man die Massen begeistert. Zudem hat ihr Menu sämtliche Ingredienzen, um vielen Metalheads Freude zu machen – viel Power, knackige Riffs, kräftige Stimmen, ein gutes Gespür für Hooklines – was will man mehr?
Ich will nicht mehr, eher etwas weniger. Während ich das Album höre, springen mich andauernd Bezüge und Einflüsse an; MANOWAR brechen mehrfach durch, gewisse Gesangsparts könnten von AMON AMARTH sein, leider linsen auch POWERWOLF um die Ecke – und „Year Of The Dragon“ könnte auch eine Kooperation mit THE HU sein, wenn auch etwas weniger asiatisch.
Der aus meiner Sicht eigenständigste Song ist ausgerechnet jener mit den Gästen – Was der junge Hansen da an der Gitarre abliefert ,ist erste Sahne. Vielleicht sollten die Truppe den Youngster gleich anheuern?

Eigenständigkeit, Alleinstellungsmerkmal – das sind meine zwei Stichworte, die dazu geführt haben, dass die Scheibe nicht die volle Zehn erhält. Das Potenzial ist unglaublich, die Band bringt Frische in den ziemlich stark ausgelatschten Power Metal Markt. Endlich mehr Ecken und Kanten als bei POWERWOLF, SABATON, DRAGONFORCE und Konsorten. Ich bin überzeugt, dass die Truppe richtig gross werden kann, wenn sie weniger ANleihen nimmt und ihre eigenen Identität findet. Das muss doch möglich sein, wenn ich schon diesem Gemischtwarenladen überzeugte neun Punkte geben muss.

Fazit

Was da auf dem digitalen Plattenteller liegt, hat fucking viel Potenzial. Die Jungs und Mädels haben es drauf und zeigen einmal mehr, dass der Powermetal-Gral irgendwo in Deutschland liegt. Jetzt müssen sie sich nur noch gegenseitig in den Arsch treten und ihren ganz eigenen Sound finden. Macht euch einzigartig und Valhalla nimmt euch mit offenen Armen auf!

We don’t give half points, otherwise I would have given the disc 9.5 points – or would I?

On the one hand, what’s rolling towards us is a pretty hot piece of metal – and that from a band that’s been around for two years – Gods Of Metal – ‘Year Of The Dragon’ is not their debut, but already their second album after ‘Legends’.

The line-up impresses with well-known names and a guest singer – who I personally don’t find that impressive. Tetzel | vocals, Antonio Calanna | vocals, Jasmin Pabst | guitar, Ursula Zanichelli | guitar, Florian Toma | bass, Leif Jensen | drums, Christina Schulz and Luisa Lohöfer | showgirls.

Oh yes, the guest singer is Mrs Goldemund from the BURNING WITCHES. I was more impressed by the second guest, guitarist Tim Kanoa Hansen. On the one hand, the young guitarist has a not entirely unknown father – Kai Hansen as guitarist for HELLOWEEN and GAMMA RAY – and on the other hand, a talent that is already soaring at least at his father’s level. Impressive when you consider, that he is only 25 years old.

But back to ALL FOR METAL and their new album. The guys and girls from REIGNING PHOENIX have already made a good move – the band promises a good live performance and knows how to wow the crowds. What’s more, their menu has all the ingredients to please many metalheads – lots of power, crunchy riffs, powerful vocals, a good feel for hooklines – what more could you want?

I don’t want more, rather a little less. As I listen to the album, references and influences keep jumping out at me; MANOWAR break through several times, certain vocal parts could be from AMON AMARTH, unfortunately POWERWOLF are also peeking around the corner – and ‘Year Of The Dragon’ could also be a collaboration with THE HU, albeit a little less Asian.

In my opinion, the most independent song is the one with the guests – what the young Hansen delivers on the guitar is first class. Perhaps the band should hire the youngster right away?

Independence, unique selling point – these are my two keywords that led to the disc not getting a full ten. The potential is incredible, the band brings freshness to the rather well-worn power metal market. Finally more rough edges than POWERWOLF, SABATON, DRAGONFORCE and the like. I am convinced that the band can become really big if they borrow less and find their own identity. That must be possible if I have to give this mixed bag a convincing nine points.

Conclusion

What’s on the digital turntable has a lot of fucking potential. The guys and girls have got what it takes and show once again that the power metal glory lies somewhere in Germany. Now they just have to kick each other’s arse and find their very own sound. Make yourselves unique and Valhalla will welcome you with open arms!
