Das Album von HIGHWAY hat mich nicht direkt von den Socken gefegt, es ist dennoch mehr als gefällig. HIGHWAY gibt es bereits seit 1999, bisher haben sie eine EP und drei Alben herausgebracht, „The Journey“ ist das vierte Werk, 2023 soll bereits das nächste Album kommen. Ben Chambert – Gitarre , Hintergrundgesang und sein Bruder Romain Chambert – Schlagzeug, Benjamin Folch – Gesang und Sam Marshal – Bass bilden die Truppe aus Sete, die schon für bedeutende Namen als Support auf der Bühne standen: Michael Schenker Group, Gotthard, Jeff Scott Soto, Crucified Barbara, Nashville Pussy oder Kissin‘ Dynamite.
Zum Album; es ist ein Akustikalbum in der Tradition der MTV-unplugged’s – also soweit akustisch, dass die Instrumente durchaus über Verstärker gespielt werden, es sich aber um akustische Werkzeuge handelt. Das Album bringt acht Tracks, die stark durch den mehrstimmigen Gesang geprägt wird. Musikalisch treffen sich verschiedene Elemente oder Genres, teilweise klingen die Songs sehr bluesig – „Motel in Alabama“, „Have A Beer“, teilweise ethno-folkig wie bei „In The Circus Of Madness“, dann wieder im Stile klassischer Singer-Songwriter, also „Freedom“ oder in der Tradition klassischer Pop-Rock Songs mit grossem Kino, also Orchester und Chor wie beim Titeltrack „The Journey“.
Fazit
Ich habe mich gefragt, wer dieses ALbum mögen wird, also das typische Zielpublikum sein dürfte. Ich glaube, dass es Fans von Folk, Blues und sanftem Rock ansprechen wird, die es gerne „weihnachtlich“ sanft und abwechslungsreich haben. Wie gesagt, es haut mich nicht aus den Socken, ist aber trotzdem ein schönes Album.

HIGHWAY’s album didn’t exactly knock my socks off, but it’s still more than pleasing. HIGHWAY has been around since 1999, they have released one EP and three albums so far, „The Journey“ is the fourth work, the next album is already scheduled for 2023. Ben Chambert – guitar , background vocals and his brother Romain Chambert – drums, Benjamin Folch – vocals and Sam Marshal – bass form the troupe from Sete, who have already supported important names on stage: Michael Schenker Group, Gotthard, Jeff Scott Soto, Crucified Barbara, Nashville Pussy or Kissin‘ Dynamite.
About the album; it is an acoustic album in the tradition of MTV unpluggeds – that is, acoustic to the extent that the instruments are certainly played through amplifiers, but they are acoustic tools. The album features eight tracks that are strongly characterised by polyphonic vocals. Musically, different elements or genres meet, sometimes the songs sound very bluesy – „Motel in Alabama“, „Have A Beer“, sometimes ethno-folky like „In The Circus Of Madness“, then again in the style of classic singer-songwriters, i.e. „Freedom“ or in the tradition of classic pop-rock songs with big cinema, i.e. orchestra and choir like on the title track „The Journey“.
Conclusion
I was wondering who would like this ALbum, i.e. who would be the typical target audience. I think it will appeal to fans of folk, blues and soft rock who like it „Christmasy“ soft and varied. As I said, it doesn’t knock my socks off, but it’s still a nice album.
