VISIONS OF ATLANTIS braucht man nicht vorzustellen, sie gehören längst zu den etablierten Kapellen des symphonischen Melodic-Metal.

Ich geb’s dann gleich einmal zu – mir gefällt das Trüppchen. Auch wenn ich etwas traurig bin, dass Kollege Sigi Samer (DRAGONSLAYER ehemals www.stormbringer.at) 2018 die Band und unser befreundetes Webzine verliess.
Die Band VISIONS OF ATLANTIS gehört zu jenen Truppen, welche wenig Ruhe in ihr Lineup bringen können. Nichts destotrotz ist es den Österreichern immer wieder gelungen, die Abgänge zentraler Bandmitglieder durch qualitativ gute Neuzugänge zu kompensieren. Das gilt etwa für die französische Sängerin Clémentine Delauney, die wir einerseits als Ex-Mitglied von SERENITY kennen, anderereseits als Begründerin von EXIT EDEN. Glück für VISIONS OF ATLANTIS nach Samers Abgang; Delauney hat bereits beim letzten Album aktiv am Songwriting mitgearbeitet und lässt dieses KnowHow in „Wanderers“ aufblühen.
Sigi Samer wurde durch Michele Guaitoli ersetzt, Herbert Glos werkelt am Bass, Christian Douscha an der Stromgitarre und Urgestein Thomas Caser drischt die Drums mit hoher Präzision. Er ist als einziges Mitglied seit 2000 dabei.
VISIONS OF ATLANTIS‘ Markenzeichen sind ganz klar die beiden Stimmen. Die Gesangsduette zeichnen die Band seit einigen Jahren aus und erreichten meiner Meinung nach mit dem Duo Samer/Delauney ihren Höhepunkt. Es wird sich erst bei den Live-Auftritten der Band zeigen, ob Guaitoli in die Schuhe seines Vorgängers passt.
Das Album „Wanderers“ hebt sich im ersten Moment nicht wahnsinnig von den Vorgängern ab – was meint, dass VOA sich musikalisch treu bleiben. Mir persönlich erschien „The Deep & The Dark“ etwas rauher, kräftiger, dunkler. Wahrscheinlich sind es die unterschiedlichen Männerstimmen, welche diesen Eindruck hinterlassen.
Technisch gibt es keinen Unterschied, auch die neue Scheibe ist perfekt aufgenommen und abgemischt. Da gibt es keinen schrägen Ton, keine Passage im Songwriting, die stutzen lässt.
VOA schaffen es auch diese Mal wieder, einen guten Mix zwischen viel Melodie und Melancholie mit einer ordentlichen Portion Powermetal zu kombinieren.
Sehr stark finde ich den Titeltrack, besonders Delauney zeigt hier, was stimmlich in ihr steckt. Mir gefällt besonders, dass hier der typisch „klassische“ Gesangsstil etwas in den Hintergrund tritt und ihre Stimme natürlicher klingt – grossartig. Guaioli hat hier keine Chance, er geht unter.
„At The End Of The World“ gibt ihm dann seine Spielwiese. Hier kann der Italiener, der von TEMPERANCE gekommen ist, seine Stimme gebührend präsentieren. Auch Gitarrist Christian Douscha kann auf diesem Track zeigen, was er zu bieten hat.
„Wanderers“ wird als musikalische Reise der Band bezeichnet.
Gespannt sein darf man auch auf „Release My Symphony“, welches das Album eröffnet. Für mich ist das der Track mit der meisten Energie, mit der eingängigsten Hookline. Der Song dürfte einer der Songs werden, welchen die Fans sehr bald Wort für Wort mitsingen können. Gitarrero Douscha gibt auch hier eine Probe seines mehr als gelungenen Handwerks.
Es mag für den Bassisten und den Drummer der Band frustrierend sein, wenn ihre Arbeit in Reviews eher etwas untergeht. Natürlich sind sie zentral für den Sound, sie geben den Takt vor und bilden das Fundament. Soli? Fehlanzeige – das gibt es so eher im Hardrock zu bewundern. Nichts desto trotz – Caser und Glos machen einen Hammerjob.
Fazit
„Wanderers“ reiht sich ein in die grossen Alben im Symphonischen Melodic-Metal. Das neueste Machwerk der Österreicher festigt ihren Platz unter den bedeutendsten Bands dieses Genres – Napalm Records hat mit dieser Band einen Glücksgriff gemacht. Die Band überzeugt durch ihre hohe musikalische Qualität, mehr als solides Handwerk und ein sehr gelungenes Songwriting. Ich habe dieses Jahr noch kein besseres Album auf dem Tisch gehabt, wenn es darum geht, zu ausgezeichneter Musik zu träumen und sich an die Gestade der imaginären Piratenstrände beamen zu lassen. Dass dazu eine gehörige Portion Zuckerguss gehört – klar, das ist Melodic-Metal!

I admit it now – I like the little trumpet. Even though I’m a bit sad that my colleague Sigi Samer (DRAGONSLAYER formerly www.stormbringer.at) left the band and our friendly webzine in 2018.
The band VISIONS OF ATLANTIS belongs to those troops that can’t bring much peace into their lineup. Nevertheless, the Austrians succeeded again and again in compensating the departures of central band members with qualitatively good new arrivals. This applies for example to the French singer Clémentine Delauney, whom we know on the one hand as an ex-member of SERENITY and on the other hand as the founder of EXIT EDEN. Luck for VISIONS OF ATLANTIS after Samers departure; Delauney already worked actively on the songwriting of the last album and lets this know-how blossom out in „Wanderers“.
Sigi Samer was replaced by Michele Guaitoli, Herbert Glos works on the bass, Christian Douscha on the electric guitar and primary rock Thomas Caser drums the drums with high precision. He is the only member since 2000.
VISIONS OF ATLANTIS‘ trademark are clearly the two voices. The vocal duets have distinguished the band for several years and in my opinion reached their climax with the duo Samer/Delauney. Only when the band perform live will it become clear whether Guaitoli fits into the shoes of his predecessor.
The album „Wanderers“ doesn’t really stand out from its predecessors at first – which means that VOA remain true to themselves musically. To me personally „The Deep & The Dark“ seemed a bit rougher, stronger, darker. Probably it’s the different male voices that leave this impression.
Technically there is no difference, also the new record is perfectly recorded and mixed. There’s no weird sound, no passage in the songwriting that makes you cut back.
VOA manage again this time to combine a good mix between a lot of melody and melancholy with a good portion of power metal.
I think the title track is very strong, especially Delauney shows what’s in it vocally. I especially like the fact that the typical „classical“ vocal style takes a back seat and her voice sounds more natural – great. Guaioli has no chance here, he goes under.
„At The End Of The World“ gives him his playground. Here the Italian, who came from TEMPERANCE, can present his voice properly. Also guitarist Christian Douscha can show on this track what he has to offer.
„Wanderers“ is called the musical journey of the band.
You can also look forward to „Release My Symphony“, which opens the album. For me this is the track with the most energy, with the most catchy hookline. The song should become one of the songs that the fans will soon be able to sing along to word for word. Guitaristero Douscha also gives a sample of his more than successful craft here.
It may be frustrating for the bassist and drummer of the band if their work gets lost in reviews. Of course they are central for the sound, they set the beat and form the foundation. Soli? No – that’s more likely to be seen in hard rock. Nevertheless – Caser and Glos do a great job.

„Wanderers“ joins the big albums in symphonic melodic metal. The latest work of the Austrians consolidates their place among the most important bands of this genre – Napalm Records has made a stroke of luck with this band. The band convinces with their high musical quality, more than solid craftsmanship and a very successful songwriting. I haven’t had a better album on the table this year when it comes to dreaming to excellent music and being beamed to the shores of imaginary pirate beaches. That a good portion of icing sugar goes with it – of course, that’s Melodic-Metal!
