TREMONTI – „The End Will Show Us How“
Mark Tremonti hat Energie für drei- Gitarrero bei ALTER BRIDGE und Frontmann bei seinem Soloprojekt TREMONTI. Und nicht zu vergessen – aktuell tourt er mit seinen Kumpels von CREED nach deren Wiedervereinigung durch die USA.

Tausendsassa ist nicht so DAS Trendwort, trotzdem bezeichnet es genau solche Personen wie Mark Tremonti. Der sechzigjährige Kalifornier spielt nicht nur Gitarre und schreibt eigene Songs, er ist auch Autor und hat 2019 den Roman „A Dying Machine“ gemeinsam mit John Shirley geschrieben.
Nun hat er sich mit seinen Kumpels Eric Friedman (Gitarre), Ryan Bennett (Schlagzeug) und Tanner Keegan (Bass) ins Studio Barbarosa, (Orlando, Florida) zurückgezogen, um das Album gemeinsam mit ihrem langjährigen Produzenten und vertrauten Weggefährten Michael „Elvis“ Baskette (ALTER BRIDGE, SEVENDUST, MAMMOTH WVH) aufzunehmen. Was genau ist dabei rausgekommen?
Zuerst einmal ist es ein ausgewachsenes Album, genau ein Dutzend Tracks mit einer Spielzeit von etwas unter einer Stunde.
Da wäre einmal der gut fünfminütige Titeltrack, eine Ballade, bei der Tremonti zeigt, dass er ein Gitarrist ist, der die feinen Facetten ebenso beherrscht wie das Shredding. Es ist schon eine Weile her, seit ich in einem Rocksong Flageolett-Passagen gehört habe. Der Song ist eher ruhig – bis bei Minute drei ein Solo reingrätscht, das dich sofort ins Hier und Jetzt zurückholt. Nach diesem Solo ist der Song ein anderer – intensiv, straight forward mit viel Power – um dann wieder in einem einzigen Flageolett zu enden. Tremonti zeigt hier auch, dass er stimmlich Einiges zu bieten hat, eindringlich, getragen und seehr gefühlvoll.
Einer der zentralsten Songs ist sicher „The Mother, The Earth and I“. Die Gitarren bauen gnadenlose Riffwände auf, die sich gleichzeitig bewegen und ausdehnen – und einem Solo Platz bieten, das sich ebenfalls gewaschen hat. Tremontis Stimme erinnert mich hier ein wenig an DISTURBED-Frontmann
David Draiman.
Mein dritter Anspieltipp ist dann „One More Time“, da baut die Truppe gleich mal ein Brett, das gekommen ist, um zu bleiben und die eine oder andere Hardcore-Band das Fürchten lernen könnte. Ein Riffing vom Feinsten, hinterbaut mit Double Blasts, die sich gewaschen haben, dieser intensiven, drückenden Stimme des Frontmannes. Was will man mehr?
Fazit
Ja, ich tue es gleich beim ersten Album, das ich im neuen Jahr bespreche; ich haue die volle Zehn raus. Was Tremonti anfasst, hat Qualität, Kreativität, Energie, ist das Ergebnis harter Arbeit eines Musikers, der Klinken geputzt hat, Erfahrungen gemacht und Stufe um Stufe die Karriereleiter hinauf geklettert ist. Das ist so in etwa das Gegenteil der Casting-Show-Fuzzies, die nach einem Jahr niemand mehr kennt.
„The End Will Show Us How“ ist grosses Kino, richtig grosses Kino, und wer es sich nicht leistet, ist selber schuld und wird auf ewig eine unvollständige Musiksammlung haben…

Jack of all trades is not THE trend word, but it is exactly what characterises Mark Tremonti. The 60-year-old Californian not only plays guitar and writes his own songs, he is also an author and co-wrote the novel ‘A Dying Machine’ with John Shirley in 2019.
Now he has retreated to Studio Barbarosa in Orlando, Florida with his buddies Eric Friedman (guitar), Ryan Bennett (drums) and Tanner Keegan (bass) to record the album together with their long-time producer and trusted companion Michael ‘Elvis’ Baskette (ALTER BRIDGE, SEVENDUST, MAMMOTH WVH). What exactly came out of it?
First of all, it’s a full-fledged album, exactly a dozen tracks with a running time of just under an hour.
There’s the five-minute title track, a ballad in which Tremonti shows that he is a guitarist who masters the fine facets as well as the shredding. It’s been a while since I’ve heard harmonics in a rock song. The song is rather calm – until a solo bursts in at minute three, which immediately brings you back to the here and now. After this solo, the song is different – intense, straight forward with a lot of power – only to end in a single harmonic again. Tremonti also shows here that he has a lot to offer vocally: haunting, solemn and very emotional.
‘The Mother, The Earth and I’ is definitely one of the most pivotal songs. The guitars build up merciless riff walls that move and expand at the same time, creating space for a solo that is also quite something. Tremonti’s voice reminds me a little of DISTURBED frontman
David Draiman.
My third recommendation is ‘One More Time’. The band kicks off with a riff that is here to stay and that could teach one or two hardcore bands to fear. The finest riffing, backed by double blasts, which have been washed up, this intense, oppressive voice of the frontman. What more could you want?
Conclusion
Yes, I’m doing it with the first album I’m reviewing in the new year; I’m giving it the full ten. Everything Tremonti touches has quality, creativity, energy, and is the result of hard work by a musician who has done the rounds, gained experience and climbed the career ladder step by step. This is about the opposite of the casting show fuzzies that no one knows a year later.
‘The End Will Show Us How’ is great cinema, really great cinema, and if you can’t afford it, it’s your own fault and you’ll have an incomplete music collection forever…
