Awesome!

Fazit

The Band

The impression could be created by THE RAVEN AGE. Band founder and guitarist George Harris is the son of none other than IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris. It’s certainly the case that one or the other door opens more easily. But when you have entered the room, you have to deliver. And Matt James does that with his vocals, Matt Cox on bass, Tony Maue on guitar and Jai Patel on drums together with the famous son, more than convincing. Already their first album „Darkness Will Rise“ inspired the press and the first live performance of the boys, which I witnessed at the SONISPHERE in 2016 – one of the first of the band – really inspired me. There was no resting on any laurels but full speed British Heavy Metal on a musically very high level.
THE RAVEN AGE definitely didn’t need to give themselves up under Steve Harris Fittiche – they themselves have enough to offer to storm the big stages. Whether IRON MAIDEN will support them one day?

The Album

Has „Conspiracy“ and is a bit more mature than the debut. Technically there was a lot going on and the songs seem more compact, denser. Matt James has a voice that can compete with NWOBHM greats like Biff Byford and lives out their possibilities, be it metal boards, metalcore-like screams or ballads.
Which brings us to the first listening recommendation; „Bloom Of The Poison Seed“ sounds like Dream, Middle Ages, Robin Hood and Sherwood Forest and could almost become a favourite song of the unicorn faction.
To make sure you don’t lean back too far, here’s the second „must-listen“ tip; „Betrayal Of The Mind“, a beating and yet melodic song, this kind of thrash tempo with fast guitars and still a lot of melody. Grandios – like on most tracks – the high precision guitar work, the hammering drums and James’s voice.
If the album only had the first four tracks, my hints would be on it – with „The Day The World Stood Still“ a Midtepo power ballad made it on the album. How do the Americans say? Awesome!

Flues

Without doubt, „Conspiracy“ is the best album I’ve heard in the last months, diverse, imaginative, good composing and a band that harmonizes wonderfully. Whether Papa Harris contributed his gene pool many years ago or not – THE RAVEN AGE are definitely a promise into the future. I’m convinced that the guys will go through the roof and not continue to stand on stage as „the support band of…“. „Conspiracy“ is a great album.
