Hunnu-Rock aus der Mongolei zuhause bei Better Noise Records.

Wo ordnet man eine Band ein, welche von ELTON JOHN als beste Rockband gewürdigt wird, die er seit Langem gehört habe und auf ihrem Debut-Album keine geringeren Gäste ausweise kann als Jacoby Shaddix von PAPA ROACH, Lzzy Hale von HALESTORM oder Danny Case von FROM ASHES TO NEW? Irgendwo ganz oben auf jeden Fall.
Zur Band gehören Gala, Leadgrowler und Spieler der Morin Khuur (Pferdekopfgeige), Enkush, ebenfalls Growler und Leadspieler der Morin Khuur. Jaya an Tumur Khuur (Maultrommel), Tsuur (Flöte und ebenfalls Growler sowie Temka an der Tovshuur, der mongolischen Laute. Diese Instrumentalisierung macht den einmaligen Sound der Band aus, eine Mischung zwischen Rock und traditioneller mongolischer Volksmusik. Und; obwohl der Gesang ausschliesslich tief und guttural ist, der Sound ist sehr melodisch und angenehm zu hören.

Der erste Hit der Band ist bestimmt „Yuve Yuve Yu“, der die letztes Saison in den Radios rauf und runter gespielt wurde, Hier mit an Bord ist Danny Case – er liefert den screamenden Klargesang als Gegenpart zum Bass-Growl der Band. „Yuve Yuve YU“ ist der härteste Track auf dem Album, er bestimmt auch den Kultstatus der Band, Der Mongolenvierer hat es geschafft, ihre traditionelle Kultur mit westlichem Rock und Metal zu verbinden, ohne grosse Abstriche zu machen, ohne sich musikalisch anzubiedern.
Grandios ist auch der zweite Track mit Gastbeteiligung, dieses Mal eine stampfende, archaische Hymne, bei der Jacoby von PAPA Roach mit mischt. Ein stampfendes Stück Musik, intensiv und treibend – hier spielt die Pferdekopfgeige eine zentrale Rolle.
Beim dritten Track mit Gastbeteiligung, dem langsamen, beinahe balladenhaften „Song Of Women“, liefert die charismatische Lzzy Hale den Counterpart zu den tiefen, männlichen Stimmen. Es gelingt ihr, den sehr speziellen mongolischen Sound mit einer „westlichen“ Note zu versehen, ohne die asiatische Gesamtstimmung zu brechen.
THE HU schaffen auf dieser Deluxe-Version den Spagat zwischen einer sehr archaischen, jahrhundertealten Traditionsmusik und westlichen Rock- und Metalelementen zu verbinden, ohne die Authentizität zu verlieren. Das Album bleibt ehrlich und stimmig.

Fazit

Diese Deluxe-Version des Debuts „Gereg“ ist wirklich gelungen und bietet einen grossen Mehrwert zum ursprünglichen Album, die Doppelversionen von CD und Vinyl dürften die durchschnittliche CD- und Plattensammlung deutlich charakterisieren. „Gereg Deluxe“ ist eindeutig eine Kaufempfehlung für Menschen, welche solche Mischungen lieben, gelungene Meshes zweier Kulturen zu schätzen wissen.

Where does one place a band that is honored by ELTON JOHN as the best rock band he has heard for a long time and that has no less guests on their debut album than Jacoby Shaddix from PAPA ROACH, Lzzy Hale from HALESTORM or Danny Case from FROM ASHES TO NEW? Somewhere at the very top in any case.
The band includes Gala, lead growler and player of the Morin Khuur (horse head fiddle), Enkush, also growler and lead player of the Morin Khuur. Jaya on Tumur Khuur (Jew’s harp), Tsuur (flute and also growler) and Temka on Tovshuur, the Mongolian lute. This instrumentalization makes the band’s unique sound, a mixture between rock and traditional Mongolian folk music. And; although the vocals are exclusively deep and guttural, the sound is very melodic and pleasant to listen to.

The band’s first hit is definitely „Yuve Yuve Yu“, which was played up and down in the radios last season. On board is Danny Case – he delivers the screaming clear vocals as a counterpart to the band’s bass growl. „Yuve Yuve YU“ is the hardest track on the album, it also determines the band’s cult status. The Mongolian four-piece has managed to combine their traditional culture with western rock and metal without making big sacrifices, without chumming up musically.
Grandiose is also the second track with guest participation, this time a stomping, archaic anthem, with Jacoby from PAPA Roach mixing in. A stomping piece of music, intense and driving – here the horse head violin plays a central role.
On the third track with guest participation, the slow, almost ballad-like „Song Of Women“, the charismatic Lzzy Hale provides the counterpart to the deep, male voices. She manages to add a „western“ touch to the very special Mongolian sound without breaking the overall Asian mood.
THE HU manage on this deluxe version to combine a very archaic, centuries-old traditional music with western rock and metal elements without losing authenticity. The album remains honest and coherent.

Conclusion

This deluxe version of the debut „Gereg“ is really successful and offers a great added value to the original album, the double versions of CD and vinyl should characterize the average CD and record collection clearly. „Gereg Deluxe“ is clearly a buy recommendation for people who love such mixes and appreciate successful meshes of two cultures.
