Empfehlung; unbedingt kaufen!

english version

There are bands that have a great heritage and can not only live well with it, but can deal with curse and blessing in equal measure. That’s how phoenixes arise from the ashes. This is also true for THE DEAD DAISIES. The Aussie-Ami mixed band unites many musicians who have rank and name: on the one hand there is guitar god Doug Aldrich, who has already been a power rower with DIO and WHITESNAKE, drummer Deen Castronovo rattled around with JOURNEY, Glenn Hughes once belonged to the line-up of DEEP PURPLE, they all work with the only remaining founding member David Lowy on guitar. The various line-up changes in the last seven years are probably also due to the fact that the cult figures have had to fight out the odd bouquet – owing to their status. When guys like Dizzy Reed (GUNS’N’ROSES), Marco Mendoza (WHITESNAKE/THIN LIZZY) or John Coraby (MÖTLEY CRÜE) are part of a band, discussions are inevitable. It is all the more surprising that THE DEAD DAISIES still exist and that the various changes do not detract from the quality and creativity.

With „Holy Ground“ the band delivers a new masterpiece – none of the 11 tracks with a playing time of 50 minutes falls short, the level remains high from the first to the last note. The opener and album title „Holy Ground“ goes straight into the pit of the stomach and shows where the musical hammer hangs, this is nothing other than a real board. In general, the band doesn’t have it in for the quiet tones. Even on „Far Away“, which is a power ballad for the biggest part of the track, the guys can’t deny themselves the opportunity to really step on the gas for the last one and a half minutes. Since none of the tracks is really bad, it’s difficult to name a favourite. I personally find the track „Like No Other (Bassline)“ exciting – actually a song about bass – or not quite? The solo work of Mr. Aldrych is particularly ingenious here – and of course Glenn Hughes‘ bass solo.

Conclusion

„Holy Ground“ has nothing to do with the W:O:A. Nevertheless, it could establish itself as a kind of „Holy Ground“ of rock music. For me, it’s currently the strongest album I’ve got my hands on in the last 12 months and it remains at least a challenge for other bands to top the disc. Recommendation; definitely buy it!
