Mit Melissa Bonny von AD FINITUM dürfte eine der aktuell besten Sängerinnen der Schweiz an Bord sein, Hans Platz als Gitarrist von FEUERSCHWANZ gehört auch nicht zu den schlechtesten Saitenmeistern, seine Gitarre erinnert mich an den grandiosen MIKE OLDFIELD. Morten Løwe Sørensen von AMARANTHE gibt an den Drums ordentlich Gas und Jenny Diehl von FEUERSCHWANZ an der Harfe setzt Glanzpunkte in den leiseren Passagen des Albums.
Verstärkt wird die Band durch hochkarätige Gäste wie Tom S. Englund (Ex-EVERGREY), die Geigerin Rusanda Panfili (HANS ZIMMER), Fabienne Erni (ELUVEITIE, ILLUMISHADE) und zu meiner grossen Freude Charlotte Wessels (DELAIN). Allein diese Besetzung ist ein Garant für technisch hochstehende und kraftvolle Musik.
Inhaltlich hat sich die Truppe, welche seit 2021 besteht, der Vertonung verschiedener Soundtracks von Filmen und Computergames, verschrieben. Ich gebe hier gleich zu, dass ich ein Laie bin, was Computerspiele anbelangt. In grauer Vorzeit habe ich mich mit Pac Man und Space Invaders abgegeben, damals noch Videogames auf Fernsehern, welche in den Kneipen in Spieltische eingelassen worden waren und später dann am Computer mit The Sequels Of Myst – einem der ersten Games mit wirklich genialer Grafik. Ansonsten – nope.
So kann ich mich also gelassen auf die Musik konzentrieren. Bei den Filmtracks sieht es etwas anders aus. Da gibt es mit „Misty Mountains“ einen Song aus der HOBBIT Trilogie, mit „May It Be“ einen aus HERR DER RINGE, damals performt von ENYA. Beim ersten Track brilliert Tom Eglund als Gast am Mikrofon, der Song an sich ist eine powervolle, sehr eingängige Powerballade -eglund und Bonny harmonieren und faszinieren beide. Beim zweiten Song steigen meine ANsprüche ins Unermessliche. Erstens ist das einer der zentralsten Songs aus dem Film, andererseits steht hier neben Bonny keine Geringere als Charlotte Wessles am Mikrofon. Die ehemalige DELAIN-Fronterin gehört für mich zu den charismatischsten Sängerinnen der Metalszene. Unglaublich, wie gut die beiden Stimmen harmonieren – einerseits die junge von Bonny, andereseits die gereifte von Wessels. Allein der Gesang ist eine Freude, eingepackt in die metallene Version des Elbensongs mit den treibenden Drumbeats und den grandiosen Gitarren-Soloparts hat mich dieser Track schon nach wenigen Sekunden.
Besondere Highlights sind sicher der Opener „Legends Never Die“, Titeltrack aus der sehr erfolgreichen „League of Legends“-Reihe sowie die Basis des Albums, „Jenny Of Oldstones“ aus Game Of Thrones (siehe Video oben). Dieser Track war das Ergebnis ebenjener Wette, welche Bonny verlor. Der Gefallen, den Hans Platz einforderte; eine Metalversion dieses Songs zu arrangieren. Zum Glück ist das mehr als gelungen, es bestärkte sämtliche Musikerinnen darin, daruas ein eigenes Projekt zu machen, das jetzt im Debut „Metamorphosis“ gipfelt.
Das Album besteht aber nicht nur aus Covern, mit „The Gates of Time“ etwa entstand ein eigener Song. Er lehnt sich inhaltlich etwas an „The Legend of Zelda“ an, wo es eben diese Zeitreiseportale gibt.
Fazit
Ich gebe dem Album mit Überzeugung 9 von 10 möglichen Punkten. 10 von 10 gibt es dann, wenn die Truppe ein Album mit lauter eigenen Songs auf diesem Niveau herausbringen wird.
Das Album ist hymnisch, gefüllt mit überzeugenden Tracks, technisch perfekt komponiert und arrangiert. Was kann man mehr verlangen? Wenn dann noch dermassen hochkarätige Musikerinnen und Musiker ihre Persönlichkeit und ihr Können einbringen, kann es nur eine Empfehlung geben – unbedingt kaufen und auf Livekonzerte auch in der Schweiz hoffen!

With Melissa Bonny of AD FINITUM one of the currently best singers of Switzerland might be on board, Hans Platz as guitarist of FEUERSCHWANZ is also not one of the worst string masters, his guitar reminds me of the terrific MIKE OLDFIELD. Morten Løwe Sørensen from AMARANTHE gives a good throttle on the drums and Jenny Diehl from FEUERSCHWANZ on the harp sets highlights in the quieter passages of the album.
The band is reinforced by top-class guests like Tom S. Englund (Ex-EVERGREY), violinist Rusanda Panfili (HANS ZIMMER), Fabienne Erni (ELUVEITIE, ILLUMISHADE) and to my great pleasure Charlotte Wessels (DELAIN). This line-up alone is a guarantee for technically superior and powerful music.
The band, which has been in existence since 2021, has dedicated itself to the soundtracks of various films and computer games. I admit right away that I am a layman when it comes to computer games. In the distant past I played Pac Man and Space Invaders, at that time videogames on TVs, which were embedded in the tables of pubs, and later on the computer with The Sequels Of Myst – one of the first games with really ingenious graphics. Otherwise – nope.
So I can calmly concentrate on the music. With the movie tracks it looks a bit different. There is „Misty Mountains“, a song from the HOBBIT trilogy, and „May It Be“, a song from LORD OF THE RINGS, performed by ENYA. On the first track Tom Eglund shines as a guest on the microphone, the song itself is a powerful, very catchy power ballad – Eglund and Bonny both harmonize and fascinate. With the second song my expectations rise immeasurably. First of all, this is one of the most central songs from the film, and secondly, next to Bonny is none other than Charlotte Wessles on the microphone. The former DELAIN front woman belongs to the most charismatic singers of the metal scene for me. Unbelievable how well the two voices harmonize – on the one hand the young one of Bonny, on the other hand the matured one of Wessels. The vocals alone are a joy, wrapped up in the metal version of the Elben song with the driving drum beats and the terrific guitar solo parts, this track has me after just a few seconds.
Special highlights are certainly the opener „Legends Never Die“, title track from the very successful „League of Legends“ series as well as the base of the album, „Jenny Of Oldstones“ from Game Of Thrones (see video above). This track was the result of that very bet, which Bonny lost. The favor Hans Platz called in; to arrange a metal version of this song. Fortunately, this was more than successful, it encouraged all the musicians to make it their own project, which now culminates in the debut „Metamorphosis“.
But the album does not only consist of covers, with „The Gates of Time“ for example an own song was created. Its content is somewhat based on „The Legend of Zelda“, where there are precisely these time travel portals.
Conclusion
I give the album 9 out of 10 possible points with conviction. 10 out of 10 will be given if the troupe will release an album with only their own songs on this level.
The album is anthemic, filled with convincing tracks, technically perfectly composed and arranged. What more can you ask for? If then still such high-carat musicians bring in their personality and their ability, there can be only one recommendation – buy absolutely and hope for live concerts also in Switzerland!
