Wer kennt Marc Storace nicht, den Fronter der Schweizer Kultband KROKUS? Dann wird es höchste Zeit, seine eigene Musik ist mehr wert als ein oberflächliches Hinhören…

MARC STORAGE gehört seit Jahrzehnten zur Schweizer Rockszene, seine charismatische und einzigartige Stimme hat den Sound von KROKUS nachhaltig geprägt. Auch wenn Storace weit weniger in den Medien präsent war, als KROKUS-Basser Chris Von Rohr, so war er für den Erfolg der Schweizer Hardrocker mindestens so wichtig. Storace hat immer mit seinem Können, seiner Bühnenarbeit überzeugt.
Seit 1979 hat er die wechselvolle Geschichte der Band mitgeprägt, Nebenprojekte hatten jedoch immer Platz. BLUE war eines dieser Projekte, der Song „You Can’t Stop The Rainfall“ war ein Erfolg, der auch heute noch ab und zu durch den Äther schallt.

Als sich KROKUS 1990 auflösten, stürzte sich Storace in die verschiedensten Arbeiten, wurde Schauspieler bei „Anuk“ und „Handyman“, zelebrierte „Rock Meets Classic“ oder begleitete „Ken Hensley live in Switzerland“. Mit verschiedenen KROKUS-Formationen veröffentlichte er dazu drei weitere Alben, die sich millionenfach verkauften.

Als KROKUS 2009 wieder in der Urformation zusammenfanden, war Storace mitverantwortlich am enormen Erfolg der Truppe und zeigte seine Live-Qualitäten auf Tourneen durch die USA, Japan, Europa und Südamerika. Nachdem KROKUS 2019 ihr offizielles Abschiedskonzert gaben, startete Storace ein weiteres Mal mit seiner Solokarriere durch. Jetzt liegt sein neues Album „Live And Let Live“ vor, demnächst stehen die ersten Gigs auf dem Plan und es würde erstaunen, wenn er nciht wieder auf den grossen Bühnen und Festivals zu sehen und zu hören sein würde. STORACE is back! 

Überraschung? Abklatsch auf KROKUS? Verzweifeltes Werk eines alternden Rockstars? Nichts von Alledem. Das Album ist einerseits keine Überraschung, denn Storace macht genau das, was er amBesten kann – Rock’n’Roll! Dabei bleibt das Album vielfältig, fette Hardrocknummern sind ebenfalls zu finden wie Powerballaden und Bluestracks.
Klar erinnert seine Musik an KROKUS – wie soll das auch anders sein? Schliesslich hat er den Sound dieser Band mit seiner Stimme über Dekaden geprägt. Und doch ist das Album keine „ähnlich-wie-KROKUS“-Scheibe. Im Zentrum steht Storaces Stimme, an seiner Seite stehen grossartige Musiker; Cyrill Camenzind und JP Von Dach an den Gitarren, Christian Rofler an den Keyboards, Marco Blöchlinger am Bass und Massimo Buonanno an den Drums. Gesanglich wird Storace durch die Backing Vocals von Gee K, Micha Dettwyler und Céline Hales unterstützt.
Die zehn Songs auf dem Neuling sind technisch perfekt arrangiert und eingespielt, dafür zeichnen Mark Rains und Pete Lyman verantwortlich sowie Lucky Tiger Records und Powerplay Studios.
Gibt es Anspieltipps? Auf jeden Fall! Die Powerballade „Lady Of The Night“ etwa oder die „richtige“, langsame Ballade „Don’t Wanna Go“, ebenso der Blues-Stampfer „High On Love“, der ein wenig an AC/DC gemahnt. Mein persönlicher Liebling jedoch ist „Time Waits For No One“, ein absolut grooviger Blues, langsam und mit heftiger Südstaatenattitüde. Dieser Song würde vielen Bluesern gut anstehen, Storaces Stimme gibt dem Track seine Seele – Hammer!

Fazit

„Live And Let Live“ ist ein Album, wie man es zwar von der Qualität her von Marc Storage erwarten durfte. Positiv überrascht hat mich die Vielfältigkeit und dennoch die Kompaktheit. Das Album ist ein gutes Beispiel für modernen Rock in verschiedenen Facetten und dafür, dass Storage auch allein fähig ist, Musik zu machen, welche auf Augenhöhe mit KROKUS spielt – oder eigentlich eher darüber.

MARC STORAGE has been part of the Swiss rock scene for decades, his charismatic and unique voice having left a lasting mark on the sound of KROKUS. Even if Storace was far less present in the media than KROKUS bass player Chris Von Rohr, he was at least as important for the success of the Swiss hard rockers. Storace was always convincing with his skills, his stage work.
From 1979 onwards, he helped shape the band’s chequered history, but there was always room for side projects. BLUE was one of these projects, the song „You Can’t Stop The Rainfall“ was a success that still resounds through the airwaves from time to time.

When KROKUS disbanded in 1990, Storace threw himself into a variety of work, becoming an actor on „Anuk“ and „Handyman“, celebrating „Rock Meets Classic“ or accompanying „Ken Hensley live in Switzerland“. With various KROKUS formations, he also released three more albums, which sold millions of copies.

When KROKUS reunited in the original formation in 2009, Storace was partly responsible for the troupe’s enormous success and showed his live qualities on tours through the USA, Japan, Europe and South America. After KROKUS gave their official farewell concert in 2019, Storace took off once again with his solo career. Now his new album „Live And Let Live“ is available, the first gigs are on the schedule soon and it would be surprising if he wouldn’t be seen and heard on the big stages and festivals again. STORACE is back! 

Surprise? A knock-off on KROKUS? Desperate work of an ageing rock star? None of the above. On the one hand, the album is no surprise, because Storace does exactly what he does best – rock’n’roll! At the same time, the album remains diverse, fat hard rock numbers can be found as well as power ballads and blues tracks.
Clearly, his music is reminiscent of KROKUS – how could it be otherwise? After all, he has shaped the sound of this band with his voice for decades. And yet the album is not a „similar-to-KROKUS“ record. Storace’s voice is in the centre, and he is accompanied by great musicians: Cyrill Camenzind and JP Von Dach on guitars, Christian Rofler on keyboards, Marco Blöchlinger on bass and Massimo Buonanno on drums. Storace is supported on vocals by Gee K, Micha Dettwyler and Céline Hales.
The ten songs on the new album are technically perfectly arranged and recorded, thanks to Mark Rains and Pete Lyman as well as Lucky Tiger Records and Powerplay Studios.
Are there any recommended songs? Definitely! The power ballad „Lady Of The Night“, for example, or the „proper“ slow ballad „Don’t Wanna Go“, as well as the blues stomper „High On Love“, which reminds me a little of AC/DC. My personal favourite, however, is „Time Waits For No One“, an absolutely groovy blues, slow and with a heavy southern attitude. This song would suit many bluesmen, Storace’s voice gives the track its soul – awesome!

conclusion

„Live And Let Live“ is an album as one might expect from Marc Storage in terms of quality. What positively surprised me was the diversity and yet the compactness. The album is a good example of modern rock in different facets and that Storage is also capable of making music on his own, which plays on par with KROKUS – or actually rather above.
