8 out of 10 burning headphones for music

Fazit

Was bleibt?

I find it hard to give this album just one score. But first, you always have to look at RAMMSTEIN critically – cult status is the Lindemann troupe’s middle name anyway. Somehow the album is a burner, somehow I can hardly avoid comparing it with „Rammstein“. And there it is just bad luck that the gentlemen Lindemann (Vocals), Kruspe (Guitars), Landers (Guitars, Riedel (Bass) Schneider (Drums) and Lorenz (Keyboards) have placed with the predecessor one of their best, if not the best album.
So I’m doing something here, which is unusual for us, but necessary here.

Ten points the band has earned once again for the lyrics. Mainstream media – which usually review only big bands, often resting on generalities – will again write by the dozen that RAMMSTEIN „provoke“ and misunderstand half of their songs. Moreover, the videos will be offensive or bad – but RAMMSTEIN is pure social criticism and argues on a high level. It is exactly the mixture between content-related statement and stirring visualization that makes this band. Why are we surprised that in a jaded time a band shouts out its message to be heard at all? It is the only means to reach the masses at least partially. Moreover, like it or not – RAMMSTEIN belong to the minority of bands – especially in metal – which also show social edge and do not care whether it pleases.
I personally love „My Tears“, just the lines „she often forces me onto her lap“ or „a man cries only when his mother dies“ turn many a social cliché into the opposite – mothers are strong and fathers weak – domestic violence once turned upside down. Attention; of course, this is not a description of the statistical reality – but it is an impetus to look at things from different sides – difficult topics also difficult to take is not easy, but it’s worth it!
Or „Big Tits“ – the Munich Oktoberfest takes place again people and the Einstige with brass music fits perfectly. This track could be the anthem for it. Apparently, we men tick so – the most important attribute of a woman are her larger than average tits. Is that so? I’m going to say – as much as some social movements like it – we as men are perhaps a bit more differentiated and less superficial than we are often told. „Rich in fatty tissue“ is by far not as prioritized in many men as it is commonly claimed.
A truly ingenious song – with choral vocals to start and a title that misleads; „OK“ stands as an abbreviation for „Without Condom“. What follows is a song peppered with ambiguous words and phrases – completely politically incorrect and perhaps therefore heartbreaking. In a world, which has raised the boring, all-around secured and preferably not provoking discourse to the idol, it needs such lyrics – urgently!

Musically, the album is distinguished by its relative calm – or not. Many tracks are balladic, rather quiet and pensive, peppered with musical set pieces, which are not able to convince me over the entire length. In the round of all RAMMSTEIN albums, „Time“ remains mediocre, far behind „Rammstein“ from 2019 or „Sehnsucht“ from 1997.

Of course, many choruses will be sung along in the stadiums, will develop live an effect, which is so nciht possible on the sound carrier. Nevertheless, the album does not convince me musically.

Conclusion

What’s left? The fans will have the disc anyway, a few thousand new ones will be added – and individual sounds will appear in the charts – and the discussions about the provocation content are as sure as the Amen in the church.
For me, the album is lyrically one of the best of the German industrial band. Even if it doesn’t fully convince musically – buy it, listen to it up and down and rejoice in the fact that it makes you think – and visually, both in terms of artwork and videos, it’s simply awesome!
