Modern Melodic Metal aus der Schweiz, zuhause bei Massacre Records

MIRACLE FLAIR sind in Bandbesetzung Nicole Hartmann am Mikrofon, Daniel Maurizi an der Gitarre und Chris Deml am Bass. Im Studio unterstützen Diego Rapacchietti an den Drums, Emmi Lichtenhahn am Bass und Erik Damköhler schliesslich spielt die Keyboards.
Geprägt wird der Sound natürlich durch Nicole Hartmanns Stimme – eine unglaubliche Intensität, eine grosse Dynamik und – ein wenig erinnert sie mich phasenweise an Anna Murphy von CELLAR DARLING (Ex-ELUVEITIE). Ein direkter Vergleich würde allerdings beiden Stimmen nicht gerecht, dazu sind sie dann doch wieder zu unterschiedlich. Aber macht euch selber ein Bild im untenstehenden Video.

Ebenso wichtig für den Sound der Melodic Metaller aus St.Gallen ist die Gitarrenarbeit von Daniel Maurizi – auf „Synchronism“ ist die ganze Geschichte einen Zacken härter und progressiver als auf den beiden Vorgängeralben. Und letztlich – wie dürfte es auch anders sein, hat Tommy Vetterli seine Finger mit ihm Spiel. Und wer den Chef der New Sound Studios in Pfäffikon kennt, weiss, dass er nur Qualität produziert. Neben ihm, Nicole Hartmann und Daniel Maurizi als Co-Produzenten hat Tony Lindgren vom Fascination Street Studio in Orebro SE das Mastering übernommen. Woher man das Studio kennt – klar, von Chef Jens Bogren, der schon so ziemlich alles unter den Reglern hatte, was in der Metalszene Rang und Namen hat. Darunter etwa meine persönliche Melodic Metal Helden ARCH ENEMY und AMON AMARTH.
Welche Erwartungen darf man also an ein Album haben, bei dem soviel Professionalität und Herzblut am Werk ist?

Insgesamt 12 Tracks inklusive Bonus finden sich auf „Synchronism“, dem mittlerweile dritten Album der Band. Ich persönlich war ja vom Vorgänger „Angels Cast Shadows“ ziemlich beeindruckt.
Was die Band damals angefangen hat, führt sie beim neuen Album konsequent weiter; Härte – Melodie – intelligentes Songwriting.
Ein Knaller auf dem Album ist „What Remains“ (Video oben) – den Vergleich kann ich mir für einmal wieder nicht verkneifen – und er ist durchaus sehr positiv zu verstehen. Es mag die gemeinsame Herkunft aus unserem kleinen Land sein, der Einfluss eines Tommi Vetterli, die Stimme Nicole Hartmanns – für mich gehören MIRACLE FLAIR in dieselbe Gilde wie CELLAR DARLING und ELUVEITIE – auch wenn ihnen der grosse Erfolg noch verwehrt geblieben ist. Was hier an musikalischer Qualität abgeliefert wird, an Kreativität und fettem Sound ist grossartig. Die einzelnen Tracks sind knackig und kompakt, landen bei entsprechender Power direkt in deiner Magengrube und fühlen sich da sehr gut an.
Ein echter Hinhörer ist auch „Inside Torn“ – eine epische Nummer mit einem faszinierenden Text; hier nur eine Passage aus dem Refrain:
„Halte am Chaos fest, halte am Leben fest und ich akzeptiere den Preis
Ich stecke mit süssem Schmerz im Chaos fest und kämpfe gegen die Einsamkeit.“

A propos Magengrube – schickt eure Nachbarn ins Kino, die Familie in die Ferien, dann haut ihr das Volume eurer Musikanlage bis zum Anschlag hoch – und hört euch „Torture Myself“ an. Noch Fragen?
Spannend und experimentell und auf diesem Album schon fast etwas frech; der Bonustrack auf der digitalen Scheibe: „In Love And Hate“ als „Retrowave Remix“ – das ist sowas von Achtzigern, als es Bands gab wie VISAGE mit „Fade To Grey“ oder OMD mit „Maid Of Orleans“ oder die EURYTHMICS mit „Sweet Dreams“ mit Musik, die so klang, wie die Bands hiessen. Und damit schrammen die St.Galler haarscharf dran vorbei, remixen diese Attitüde mit einer gewaltigen Portion Metal und schaffen damit einen humorvollen und spannenden Abschluss des neuen Albums.

Fazit

Also, dann haben wir da eine moderne, melodische Metalband aus der Ostschweiz, die dort angekommen ist, wo sie hingehört – aufs Podest! Und damit wäre die Band bereit für mehr, für mehr Fans, für mehr Konzerte, für Festivals und die grossen Bühnen. Das Album jedenfalls ist ein Kracher, ist grosses Kino – holt es euch!

MIRACLE FLAIR are Nicole Hartmann on microphone, Daniel Maurizi on guitar and Chris Deml on bass. In the studio, Diego Rapacchietti on drums, Emmi Lichtenhahn on bass and Erik Damköhler on keyboards are supporting the band.
The sound is of course influenced by Nicole Hartmann’s voice – an incredible intensity, a great dynamic and – at times it reminds me a little bit of Anna Murphy from CELLAR DARLING (Ex-ELUVEITIE). But a direct comparison would not do justice to both voices, they are too different for that. But make yourself a picture in the video above.

Even so important for the sound of the Melodic Metallers from St.Gallen is the guitar work of Daniel Maurizi – on „Synchronism“ the whole story is a bit harder and more progressive than on the two previous albums. And finally – how could it be otherwise, Tommy Vetterli has his fingers in the pie. And whoever knows the boss of the New Sound Studios in Pfäffikon knows that he only produces quality. Besides him and Nicole Hartmann as co-producers, Tony Lindgren from Fascination Street Studio in Orebro SE has taken over the mastering. Where you know the studio from – of course from boss Jens Bogren, who already had pretty much everything under his control that has rank and name in the metal scene. Among them are my personal melodic metal heroes ARCH ENEMY and AMON AMARTH.
What can you expect from an album where so much professionalism and passion is at work?

A total of 12 tracks including bonus can be found on „Synchronism“, the third album of the band. I was personally quite impressed by the predecessor „Angels Cast Shadows“. The band continues what they started back then with the new album; hardness – melody – intelligent songwriting.
A big hit on the album is „What Remains“ (video above) – for once I can’t resist the comparison – and it’s very positive. It might be the common origin from our small country, the influence of a Tommi Vetterli, the voice of Nicole Hartmann – for me MIRACLE FLAIR belong to the same guild as CELLAR DARLING and ELUVEITIE – even if they are still denied the big success. What is delivered here in musical quality, in creativity and fat sound is great. The individual tracks are crisp and compact, and with the right power they land directly in the pit of your stomach and feel very good there.
A real listener is also „Inside Torn“ – an epic number with a fascinating lyrics; here is just a passage from the chorus:
„Hold on to the chaos, hold on to life and I accept the price
I’m stuck in chaos with sweet pain and fight against loneliness.“

Talking about the pit of your stomach – send your neighbours to the cinema, your family on holiday, then you’ll blow the volume of your music system to the limit – and listen to „Torture Myself“. More questions?
Exciting and experimental and on this album almost a bit cheeky; the bonus track on the digital disc: „In Love And Hate“ as „Retrowave Remix“ – that’s so eighties when there were bands like VISAGE with „Fade To Grey“ or OMD with „Maid Of Orleans“ or EURYTHMICS with „Sweet Dreams“ with music that sounded like the bands names. And with that the St.Galleners scraped by by a hair’s breadth, remixed this attitude with a huge portion of metal and thus created a humorous and exciting conclusion to the new album.

Conclusion

So, then we have a modern, melodic metal band from Eastern Switzerland, who have arrived where they belong – on the podium! And so the band would be ready for more, for more fans, for more concerts, for festivals and the big stages. Anyway, the album is a blast, is great cinema – get it!
