Fazit

The front man
Is actually nobody, because Marc Vanderberg acts in the background. He writes all the tracks, but he can only be heard on guitar. He leaves the place at the front to his guests. And these guests are the most different singers on all albums.
On „Phoenix From The Ashes“ they are for example Paulo Cuevas, Göran Edman (Yngwie Malmsteen), Rafael Gazman and some others. Further guests are the guitarists Dustin Thomsen and Michael Schinkel, who play the solo parts for „Phoenix From The Ashes“ and „Bitter Symphony“.
This band composition has a big disadvantage – the live presentation of such an album is practically impossible.

The album
„Phoenix From The Ashes“ is the second full length album of the German master guitarist. Musically, Vanderberg is clearly committed to the hard rock and metal of the late eighties and early nineties. MALMSTEEN, EUROPE or MÖTLEY CRÜE shine through, but also tracks which we could count to the sound of bands like SAXON or other NWOBHM bands.
The bandwidth is enormous, with „Bitter Symphony“ he delivers an unparalleled riff storm, vocally supported by Rafael Gazman and Dustin Thomsen. At the other end of the flagpole is the rock ballad „My Darkest Hour“ with acoustic guitar and the voice of Colombian Paulo Cuevas. The track scars hard past the kitsch, but remains a classic power ballad with a good mixture between purely instrumental parts and parts with the charismatic voice of Cuevas‘.
Even 25 seconds, Vanderberg makes us believe on „Odin’s Words“ that the album will start comfortably. Then the hard tones strike, the almost permanently soothing guitar in dialogue with Paulo Cueva’s voice. Although he is rather unknown to us – I think Cuevas is the best guitarist on the album.

Fazit
„Phoenix From The Ashes“ is a worthy successor to the debut „Devil May Care“ or the second full-length „Highway Demon“. Vanderberg manages to put his talent for songwriting and composing into practice once more. Also the choice of voices fits absolutely to the tracks. „Phoenix From The Ashes“ is a musically high standing album, which has only one disadvantage – you will hardly ever hear the tracks live in all their splendour.
