KINGSBOROUGH – „Take The Ride“ am 07.02.2020

Dem Vernehmen nach haben KINGSBOROUGH ganz schön anspruchsvolle Vorbilder;
THE BEATLES, LED ZEPPELIN oder THE BLACK KEYS.

Have you ever heard of it? KINGSBOROUGH from Santa Rosa in California? I confess, I don’t either – what a mistake is.

The KINGSBOROUGH are said to have quite demanding role models;
THE BEATLES, LED ZEPPELIN or THE BLACK KEYS. Singer and guitarist Billy Kingsborough works together with the second guitarist Alex Leach, who also provides the backing vocals. The other two do the same; bassist Chris Mangione and drummer John Whitney.
The guys come from the American sun-drenched west coast, where it never rains according to Albert Hammond. Nevertheless, there is no surf sound, but a strong blues rock.

The EP „Take The Ride“ is actually only a herald of the new album „Evidence Of Our Sonic Evolution“, which will also be released in 2020. As the EP will not be released until February, the album should be released in autumn at the earliest.
The guys dare a lot – all four tracks are catchy, robust, powerful. „Open Invitation“ sounds so familiar, as if the track has been playing up and down the radio playlists for quite some time – which is not the case yet. But the potential would be there – because of the terribly loud, distorted guitars of course only in the corresponding stations, with SRF3 only in Diller’s „Rock Special“. If you’re reading this, dear Dominik – that would be something?
All four tracks have a cool groove, are blues-rocky with a certain garage-rock attitude. The guitar sound is raw, unvarnished and unadorned. Nevertheless, the vocal parts are melodic, the polyphonic phrases nestle quickly in the ears.
With „Accross The Highlights“ they deliver a track that would definitely pass as alternative rock. I like the contrasted guitar rhythms and especially the melodic vocals – a cool group, which by the way will be on tour in Europe starting in March. In Switzerland they play on 21.3.2020 at BÖRÖM in Oberentfelden.

Fulness

We don’t usually award points for EPs, especially when an album is coming soon. I couldn’t resist it here, especially as the band shows what they can do in four songs – I can recommend the EP, I’m excited about the album.
