IVORY MOON – RAVEN BLACK NIGHT – GRANT-LEE PHILIPS

IVORY MOON – „Lunar Gateaway“

english version

I’m just so pervaded by metal bands with classically trained female voices – who then also sing classically. This is tricky on the one hand, because it can easily turn into comedy, and on the other hand, because the quality of the voices is not congruent with their education. IVORY MOON are an Italian symphonic metal band and the female voice works out quite well here. First of all Loretta Venditti is really good and secondly she convinces me in the parts where she sings „normally“. Here she shows an enormous dynamic and a lot of power.
Otherwise IVORY MOON play pleasing but not outstanding Melodic Metal – at least musically varied and technically good.

RAVEN BLACK NIGHT – „Run With The Raven“

The Australian quartet has been on the road since 1999 and has published several works during this time. „Run With The Raven“ fits into their musical band history; Doom with the musical understanding from the time when this style was influenced by bands like BLACK SABBATH. So the album has nothing to do with today’s gloomy albums, which are characterised by endless slowness and depressive breakdowns.
BLACK RAVEN NIGHT deliver here an absolutely powerful album, which revives the music of the seventies and eighties in the best sense – a recommendation to the fans of this genre!

GRANT-LEE PHILIPS – „Lightning Show Us Your Stuff“

english version

Once again, some softer sounds have found their way onto my hard disk. Singer-songwriter Grant-Lee Philips released his latest album „Lightning Show Us Your Stuff“ at the beginning of the month.
It is a record for the quieter moments, peppered with many elements of American folk music – Americana is probably the collective term for it.
The disc is unagitated and varied and for those who need a quiet hour – here is the accompanying music. It is now the tenth solo album of the former GRANT LEE BUFFALO – Fronters Philips. Below you can find a video of his former band at the Glastonburry Festival 1994.
as said, „Lightning Show Us Your Stuff“ is the soundtrack to a contemplative timeout, which you are welcome to afford.
