GOTTHARD – „In Memory Of Our Unforgotten Friend“

GOTTHARD – „In Memory Of Our Unforgotten Friend“

BONUSTRACK:
Eye Of The Tiger (Electric Version)

english version

Who would have thought that ten years after his death there would be another album with him? STEVE LEE, at that time front man of the Ticino band GOTTHARD, had an accident on 05.10.2010 during a motorbike tour in Nevada. Switzerland lost the undisputed best rock singer ever. STEVE LEE is still called RONNIE JAMES DIO by many fans and musicians – and rightly so.
Now Leoni and Co. have set about reworking and partially supplementing the band’s archive material. NIC MAEDER has placed himself in the second row and honours STEVE LEE as his background singer.
I admit that this album actually already had the five maximum bonehands of Rocknews on it after the release of the pre-single „The Eye Of The Tiger“. Now the album is available and I am even more enthusiastic. Especially Leo Leoni, Fredy Scherrer and Marc Lynn, who have accompanied LEE for a part of his life, have succeeded in creating a respectful homage to the charismatic singer. With every song you can feel that friends honour a friend and again you realise that today a singer is missing who has shaped the rock world. NIC MAEDER is also to be credited for never having tried to copy STEVE LEE and Hena Habegger, who left the band in 2019 at his own request, should also have played his part in the success of this project.

The album contains the acoustic and electric version of „The Eye Of The Tiger“, one of STEVE LEE’s favourite songs. In addition, it contains songs like „One Life One Soul“ or „lift U Up“ and ten more tracks – all recorded semi-acoustically and in a similarly calm manner. The album lives from an intensity that is not to be found in technical areas, also the arrangements don’t matter; it is this knowledge that friends are setting a monument to a loved one – which STEVE LEE would never have claimed for itself. So it is not relevant whether individual songs stand out, whether there are tips on how to play them. The album is a complete package, a tribute, a gift without focus on the hit parade or single releases. But one thing does; the electric version of „Eye Of The Tiger“ has gotten pretty fat.
