Wenn eine Band zwanzigstes Jubiläum feiert und dabei ihr zehntes Album veröffentlicht, so sagt das zumindest aus, dass sie fleissig ist. Bietet „Legacy“ noch mehr?

Vermächtnis ist ein Albumtitel, der leicht verwirren kann. Hören die Jungs auf? Ist das ein Abschiedsalbum? Wohl definitiv nicht – mit einem solchen Knaller hört keine Band auf – das Album ruft definitiv nach mehr.
Und damit gleich zum Feedback; 10 von 10 möglichen Punkten für Album Nummer 10, weil einfach alle 10 Tracks knallen!
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH haben eine bewegte Geschichte hinter sich, Höhen und Tiefen etwa durch die Abstürze von Ivan Moody, den charismatischen Frontmann. Zur Bedeutung des ALbums äussert sich Zoltan Batory, Gitarrist und Gründungsmitglied der Band folgendermassen:
„Dieses Album ist unsere laute und klare Antwort auf die Frage, ob eine Band ihrem unverwechselbaren Sound treu bleiben kann, der für Millionen von Fans zum Soundtrack ihres Alltags geworden ist, und dennoch etwas Neues und Aufregendes schreiben kann. „Legacy“ ist ein absolutes Monster, ein kompromissloses Denkmal dafür, wie weit wir gekommen sind, und ein klares Signal, dass wir nicht einmal daran denken, einen Gang zurückzuschalten. Wenn ihr mich bitten würdet, die eine Platte auszuwählen, die die Essenz dieser Band am besten repräsentiert, würde ich euch genau diese hier geben.“
Und genau da gebe ich ihm Recht; das Album ist die absolute 5FDP-Essenz, widerspiegelt die Kraft und Härte dieser Band, zeigt gleichzeitig ihre Musikalität und ein Stück weit die Verletzlichkeit ihres Shouters. Beispiels gefällig? Also eigentlich; no fillers – just killers! Für mich persönlich stechen der Titeltrack „Legacy“ und eine der Vorabsingles „Eye Of The Storm“ heraus, allerdings nur ein wenig und auf hohem Niveau. „Eye Of The Storm“ dürfte das grösste Hitpotenzial haben. „Joke’s On Me“ und „Nails In The Coffin“ überzeugen ebenfalls noch etwas stärker als die anderen Tracks. Aber definitiv; da fällt nichts ab, behindert nichts den grandiosen Gesamteindruck.
Eine Aussage von Gitarrist Zoltan Batory finde ich bemerkenswert, und zwar, wenn es um die Texte und deren Bedeutung geht.
„Ivan erklärt nie, was seine Songtexte bedeuten. Er will den Fans nicht ihre eigene Interpretation vorenthalten, daher bedeutet ein Song für jeden Hörer genau das, was er für ihn bedeuten soll. Das ist Absicht, und genau das liebe ich an ihm. Aber für mich geht es in ‚Nails In The Coffin‘ darum, die Dinge zu begraben, die versucht haben, uns zu begraben. Jeder Zweifel, jede Vorhersage, dass wir nicht durchhalten würden, jede Katastrophe, die der letzte Nagel in unserem Sarg sein sollte. 20 Jahre später sind wir immer noch hier, und wir sind diejenigen, die den Hammer in der Hand halten.“
Fazit
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH liefern definitiv das bisher beste Album dieses Jahres ab – innerhalb des Genres sowieso, aber auch übergreifend im Sinn von „das beste Harteisen von 2026“. Ob da noch mehr kommt? Möglicherweise AMON AMARTH mit ihrem Album „The Allfather Awakens“ im Oktober? Wir werden sehen und hören.
Heute ist übrigens erst die digitale Version von „Legacy“ erschienen, CDs und Vinyls erscheinen erst im September.

“Ermächtnis” is an album title that can be a bit confusing. Are the guys calling it quits? Is this a farewell album? Definitely not—no band would call it quits with a hit like this—the album definitely leaves you wanting more.
And that brings us right to the review: 10 out of 10 possible points for their 10th album, because all 10 tracks are just amazing!
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has had an eventful history, with ups and downs—such as the relapses of Ivan Moody, the charismatic frontman. Zoltan Batory, guitarist and founding member of the band, comments on the significance of the album as follows:
“This album is our loud and clear answer to the question of whether a band can stay true to its distinctive sound—which has become the soundtrack to everyday life for millions of fans—and still write something new and exciting. ‘Legacy’ is an absolute monster, an uncompromising monument to how far we’ve come, and a clear signal that we aren’t even thinking about slowing down. If you asked me to pick the one record that best represents the essence of this band, I’d give you this very one.”
And that’s exactly where I agree with him; the album is the absolute essence of 5FDP, reflecting the power and intensity of this band while also showcasing their musicality and, to some extent, the vulnerability of their vocalist. Want an example? Well, basically: no fillers—just killers! For me personally, the title track “Legacy” and one of the lead singles, “Eye Of The Storm,” stand out—though only slightly, and at a very high level. “Eye Of The Storm” probably has the greatest hit potential. “Joke’s On Me” and “Nails In The Coffin” are also slightly more compelling than the other tracks. But definitely—nothing falls short, and nothing detracts from the magnificent overall impression.
I find a statement by guitarist Zoltan Batory particularly noteworthy, specifically regarding the lyrics and their meaning.
“Ivan never explains what his lyrics mean. He doesn’t want to deprive fans of their own interpretation, so a song means exactly what it’s meant to mean to each listener. That’s intentional, and that’s exactly what I love about him. But for me, ‘Nails In The Coffin’ is about burying the things that tried to bury us. Every doubt, every prediction that we wouldn’t make it, every catastrophe that was supposed to be the final nail in our coffin. Twenty years later, we’re still here, and we’re the ones holding the hammer.”
Conclusion
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH definitely deliver the best album of the year so far—within the genre, of course, but also across the board in the sense of “the best hard rock album of 2026.” Will there be more to come? Perhaps AMON AMARTH with their album “The Allfather Awakens” in October? We’ll see and hear.
