EMERALD sind eine Melodic Power Metalband aus der Schweiz, seit 1995 an der Arbeit. Wenn ich in ihr aktuelles Album „Restless Souls“ reinhöre, frage ich mich, warum zum Teufel ich die Band nicht schon lange stärker wahrgenommen habe. Fehler!

Die Band
EMERALD sind ein Quintett und als Band absolute Veteranen – was definitiv nicht falsch verstanden werden darf. Ich meine damit Kämpen, welche schon manche Musikschlacht geschlagen haben. Am Mikrofon werkelt Mace Mitchell, Julien Menth bedient den Sechssaiter und wird dabei von Michael Vaucher unterstützt.
Das einzige weibliche Wesen spielt die Suzy Quattro am Bass und bildet damit gemeinsam mit Al Spycher an den Fässern das Fundament für diesen Bretterverschlag. Nicht zu vergessen – Thomas Vaucher integriert die Keyboards, welche üblicherweise eher im Hardrock oder symphonischen Metal angesiedelt sind.
Das Album
„Restless Souls“ knallt dir ab dem 17.05.2019 ein Dutzend Tracks vor den Latz, wovon eines ein Bonustrack beim Digialbum ist und das andere ein Bonus-Download.
Was mir persönlich sehr gut gefallen hat – die Kapelle hat sich eine Ballade vorgenommen. Balladen sind für mich immer ein guter Masstab für die musikalische Qualität einer Band. Die Stimme kann sich nicht im allgemeinen Getümmel verstecken. Gitarristen müssen beweisen, dass sie auch ohne Saitenmasturbation coole Licks und Soli hinkriegen, ähnlich sieht es für Keyboarder aus. Und letztlich; die Rhythmus-Sektion ist gefordert, einen präzisen Boden zu legen, ohne dass mit Tempo und Doubleblasts von technischen Unzulänglichkeiten abgelenkt werden kann.
Mit „Set Me Free“ lösen das EMERALD sehr gut ein. Mace Mitchell zeigt die ganze Dynamik und das Charisma seiner Stimme auf, die Jungs an der Gitarre bringen ihre Gerätschaften zum Heulen und Jaulen, dass es eine Freude ist, Bassboden, Takt und Soundwände ergänzen das gesamte Konstrukt.
Ein Brüller ist auch „Superhero“ – Einstieg mit einer präzisen Basslinie und dann die Übernahme mit der Stimme in jenen Höhen, wie wir sie von guten Hardrock-Sängern kennen. So ist Superhero auch ein kleiner Schritt zur Seite, um den guten alten Hardrock zu begrüssen.
Ebenfalls sehr beeindruckt hat mich der Titeltrack. Für mich bringt er das komplexeste Composing, die grösste Variabilität – kein Wunder, dass es kein Thrash-Brecher ist sondern eher eine Midtempo-Veranstaltung.
Mit „Son Of Sam“ erweisen die Schweizer dann noch einer der grössten Bands der Welt ihre Ehre – IRON MAIDEN.
Fazit
„Restless Souls“ ist das mittlerweile achte Album von EMERALD und ein Meilenstein, der in die Welt hinausschreit: „Nehmt uns zur Kenntnis! Wir können Rock und Metal!“ Und tatsächlich, das kann der Fünfer aus dem beschaulichen Schweizer Mittelland. Hoffen wir, dass die Musikwelt dieser Band etwas mehr AUfmerksamkeit gönnt – mit dem Kauf der SCheibe kann man damit beginnen!

What I personally liked very much – the band has taken on a ballad. Ballads are for me always a good measure for the musical quality of a band. The voice cannot hide in the general turmoil. Guitarists have to prove that they can do cool licks and solos without string masturbation, it looks similar for keyboard players. And last but not least; the rhythm section is challenged to lay a precise foundation, without being distracted from technical shortcomings by tempo and doubleblasts.
With „Set Me Free“ the EMERALD is a very good solution. Mace Mitchell shows the whole dynamic and the charisma of his voice, the guys on the guitar make their equipment howl and howl, that it’s a pleasure, bass bottom, beat and sound walls complete the whole construct.
A roar is also „Superhero“ – entrance with a precise bass line and then the takeover with the voice in those highs as we know it from good hard rock singers. So Superhero is also a small step to the side to welcome the good old Hardrock.
I was also very impressed by the title track. For me it brings the most complex composing, the biggest variability – no wonder that it’s not a thrash-breaker but rather a midtempo event.
With „Son Of Sam“ the Swiss do their homage to one of the biggest bands in the world – IRON MAIDEN.
Conclusion
„Restless Souls“ is EMERALD’s eighth album and a milestone that is reaching out into the world: „Take note of us! We can rock and metal!
