Was bringt das neue Album? Zuerst einmal richtig fetten, druckvollen Heavy Metal.

Wo soll ich also anfangen?

Fazit

Wer sich „Kill The Hunted“ von LEATHERWOLF nicht leisten will, hat sich ins eigene Bein geschossen – die Hartmusiksammlung ist und bleibt lückenhaft. Das Album gehört definitiv in jedes digitale oder analoge Musikregal – also kaufen!

LEATHERWOLF are a piece of history and brought the „Triple Axe Attack“ into play long before IRON MAIDEN.

Keith Adamiak on lead vocals, Rob Math, Luke Man and Wayne Findlay on guitars, Dean Roberts on drums and Barry Sparks on bass – that’s the basic line-up of the heavy metal heroes from the Sunshine State. On the new album they got none other than Joel Hoekstra as a guest.
At work since 1981, the boys gave a then unknown thrash metal band a chance with a support slot in 1982; METALLICA. With „Kill THe Hunted“, the guys deliver their eighth album, counting a first, self-titled EP. It’s been 15 years since the guys released their last album „New World Asylum“. I don’t understand why the band is not on the big metal stages. In 1999, the guys played WACKEN, but apart from that, the really big shows and tours are missing. Their last, significant performance was in 2018 at the ROCK HARD FESTIVAL in Gelsenkirchen, which was recorded by ROCKPALAST.

What does the new album bring? First of all, really fat, powerful heavy metal. Hardly anyone would notice that the troupe has been on stage for 41 years. However, for the sake of justice, one has to admit that the line-up has changed a time or two during this time. The biggest gain is definitely singer Keith Adamiak, who clearly makes his mark on the album – a very big voice appears here in the metal sky!
What impresses me about the album – it is perfectly produced – by Randy Burns, who already worked with KREATOR or MEGADETH – and also on the band’s first EP in 1984.
And what else can I say about an album that simply contains good, fat tracks, that slams the sound of three guitars with many polyphonic solos into your ears? It should go without saying that an extremely stable rhythm section lays the solid ground next to the power rudders and the microphone artist.

So where should I start? With the opener „Hit The Dirt“, which immediately announces the house number? Or with the hookliner „Kill The Hunted“, which shows what fat riffing from three guitars sounds like. „Only The Wicked“ starts with whistles – not the whistles, but the whistling. And Adamiak shows here that he has an uncanny vocal range – and sounds somewhat reminiscent of the singer and founder of the support band at the time – to some extent he sounds like METALLICA-Hetfield here – although that should not be intentional, nor would he need to. By the way, „Only The Wicked“ is the „softest“ track, a midtempo number, which allows a short breather in an otherwise „straight forward“ album. Apart from that, the guys know no mercy – where heavy heavy metal is on the label, heavy metal is on the inside.

Conclusion

Whoever doesn’t want to afford „Kill The Hunted“ by LEATHERWOLF has shot himself in the foot – the hard music collection is and remains incomplete. The album definitely belongs on every digital or analogue music shelf – so buy it!
