DEAD VENUS – „Birds Of Paradise“

english version

Half a year ago „Birds Of Paradise“ was released in Switzerland, now it conquers the rest of the world – good luck!.
DEAD VENUS are definitely a trio consisting of Mike Malloth on drums, André Gärtner on bass and voice, acoustic guitar and piano contributed by Seraina Telli. Seraina Telli? That sounds familiar to me… Right, that was the better singer of the female fronted swiss cheese metal band „BURNING WITCHES“.
Except on solo paths the charismatic singer is now walking through the music world with a band again.
The trio is dedicated to prog – rock or metal is not important and is not really important. Anyway, the band has a lot of power and creativity.

Actually a part of the music for the album is already there since 2015, the band together for that long. Sometimes a good thing wants to take its time and a sophisticated sound is just not ready for the market as quickly as all the plastic shit you get to hear everywhere.
„Birds Of Paradise“ is once again an album that I would call a rung and a whole, without being a classic concept album. Since I experience the music as a whole, I can’t give any specific hints. There is the opener „Latitudinarian“, which suggests that there is a kind of classical album coming. Or „Human Nature“, actually a classical folk song – maybe with some too weird harmonies – so stylistically interesting, not in the sense of wrong or inappropriate.

„The Flying Soul“ then reveals the ingenious vocal variance of the singer – just imagine this voice would be dusty with the burning witches… All tracks from the album seem deep, want to be conquered. Every song is unique and yet serves the whole. In the first moment you can get the impression that many of the songs sound similar, but when you listen closer or after playing them several times, more and more diversity comes out, nuances and spotlights show up.

Conclusion

It has been a long time since I have received such a densely interwoven sound structure with so many facets, an album that gives me peace and yet builds up tension. Thank God Seraina Telli has chosen this music – probably for her music.
