Leo Leoni together with his friends, RAINBOW-singer and LORDS OF BLACK-founder and meanwhile ex-member Ronnie Romero, Hena Habegger from GOTTHARD on drums, Jgor Gianola, ex-GOTTHARD/U.D.O. on drums. and JORN LANDE on guitar and Mila Merker on bass by SOULLINE, have created another album, which mainly contains songs from earlier GOTTHARD times, two new tracks and a JOHN LEE HOOKER cover.
It’s a high-calibre little trumpet that sets another fragrance mark in the Swiss rock scene. LEO LEONI has always been the heart of GOTTHARD together with exceptional singer STEVE LEE, now he is also the soul of CORE LEONI. I’m saying it now – CORE LEONI put GOTTHARD in the corner, both in terms of the songs as well as the technical and musical quality. CORE LEONI is more than just a new hard rock band, CORE LEONI are the legitimate successors to GOTTHARD.

With the simple „2“ at the end of the album title, the band shows that there is no need for frills on the album title, nor on the music.
„Core Leoni 2“ is a kick-ass-straight-ahead album, a horny hard rock record with power and heart.
on the one hand, the guys revive earlier – and better – GOTTHARD times. This has to do with the fact that three guys from this era are on board and the majority of the tracks come from GOTTHARD. On the other hand, the uncanny charismatic singer Ronnie Romero is also responsible for this.
Honest? Nothing against Nic Mäder, he is a great singer, as successor of Steve Lee Ronnie would have been the better choice – less polished, dirtier, rougher.
That the GOTTHARD numbers on the disc are good is almost self-explanatory. But this is also true for both new songs „Queen Of Hearts“ and „Don ´t Get Me Wrong“ – this is Leo Leoni’s heart and soul, his ability to write horny rock songs that outlast the times.  „Queen Of Hearts“ is quite a board, pushing forward and letting Romero’s voice run riot, showing its great dynamics.
„Don ´t Get Me Wrong“ is a classic mid-tempo track, robust and compact in its appearance. If it needed further proof that Leo can continue to write cool rock songs, this would be him.
Then another piece of the Ticino’s heart blood appears on the album. He leaves nobody less than JOHN LEE HOKER with the cover „Boom Boom“. Unfortunately this track, as well as „And Then Goodbye“ and „Cheat And Hide“ is only on the vinyl disc and in the download version. Why isn’t it clear to me, it’s a pity it’s always.

What is my conclusion on the second lion disc? Grandios, actually a smooth „five bonehands“. I make the deduction exactly because of the missing tracks on the CD.
Otherwise; after I was so disappointed at the last live concert of GOTTHARD at the ROCK THE RING, those GOTTHARD that I knew and loved from before were reborn here. That’s the music that GOTTHARD should play today, that’s how the people of Ticino should sound, that’s Rock’n’Roll.
So let’s look forward to the album that will be in the shops tomorrow and the live shows that will take CORE LEONI all over Switzerland. You can find the tour list below.

For the gigs in Pratteln and Arbon we still have tickets to give away.

My recommendation; buy the record, indulge in old GOTTHARD times and enjoy the new tracks, which show how things could go on.
