Classic Rock zum Verzweifeln – IRONWILL mit „Breakout“

Zwar bezeichnet die Band ihren Stil als „B2B – back to blues“, aus meiner Sicht enthält die Musik alles, was guten Classic Rock auszeichnet.

Was fangen wir nun damit an? Mit einer Band meine ich, deren Besetzung eher unklar ist – ebenso ihre musikalische Ausrichtung. Klar ist eigentlich nur, dass es da den Mastermind Salvo „Ironwill“ Dell’Arte gibt, der sich allem Anschein nach mit verschiedenen Gastmusikern umgibt – eine Art Soloprojekt also. Wer genau da mittut, darüber schweigen sich die Promounterlagen aus, und das Internetz hilft auch nur bedingt weiter.
Was man sagen kann – die Gäste sind alles exzellente Musiker und Musikerinnen. Was dadurch fehlt, ist die musikalische Einheit…

Das Album wirkt eher wie eine Auslegeordnung der Qualitäten verschiedener Musikerinnen und Musiker und eine Ansammlung verschiedenster Stile. Jeder Track für sich ist gut bis teilweise faszinierend – und doch fehlt das verbindende Element – vom Gesang einmal abgesehen. Hier dominiert eine weibliche Stimme – oder mehrere weibliche Stimmen? Man weiss es nicht genau.
Ansonsten finden sich viele Versatzstücke, vom Blues über den Rock mit funkigen Elementen bis hin zum melodischen Metal. Irgendwie wirkt das ganze Teil eher wie eine Compilation. Schade eigentlich, denn wie gesagt;; die musikalische und technische Qualität der Musiker ist deutlich bessser, als es diese Review vielleicht vermittelt.
So gefällt mir der Titeltrack „Breakout“ ausgesprochen gut, ebenso die Ballade „Save Me“ und über das gesamt Album hinweg die Gitarrenarbeit.

Fazit

Wie gesagt, anstatt einer Teamleistung bleibt es bei sehr guten Einzelleistungen, welche sich leider nicht zu einem Ganzen zusammenfügen – schade!

What do we do with it now? By a band I mean whose line-up is rather unclear – as is their musical orientation. The only thing that is clear is that there is mastermind Salvo „Ironwill“ Dell’Arte, who apparently surrounds himself with various guest musicians – a kind of solo project. The promo material is silent about who exactly is involved, and the internet is of limited help.
What can be said is that the guests are all excellent musicians. What is missing is the musical unity…

The album seems more like a display of the qualities of different musicians and a collection of diverse styles. Each track is good to partly fascinating – and yet the connecting element is missing – apart from the vocals. One female voice dominates here – or several female voices? You don’t know exactly.
Other than that, there are many set pieces, from blues to rock with funky elements to melodic metal. Somehow the whole thing seems more like a compilation. It’s a pity because, as I said, the musical and technical quality of the musicians is much better than this review might suggest.
I really like the title track „Breakout“, the ballad „Save Me“ and the guitar work throughout the album.

conclusion

As I said, instead of a team performance, it remains very good individual performances, which unfortunately do not add up to a whole – a pity!
