„Mit diesem Album haben wir uns wirklich frei gelassen und alle Grenzen und Erwartungen hinter uns gelassen, um Musik zu schreiben, die wir lieben. Wir wollten das unverfälschte und authentische Gefühl, das wir haben, wenn wir live spielen, auf einem Album einfangen und uns gleichzeitig dazu drängen, das beste Werk zu schaffen und zu schreiben, das wir je gemacht haben. Elin war während der Aufnahmen schwanger, und was ist nicht mehr Rock’n’Roll als das? Menschliches Leben und Musik zu erschaffen.“
BLUES PILLS sind Elin Larsson mit ihren satten Vocals und dem rohen, angeborenen Charisma, Zack Anderson (Gitarre), André Kvarnström (Drums) und Kristoffer Schander (Bass). Warum auch immer, ich habe die Band gefühlsmässig immer in Holland verortet. Mag sein, dass ich die nordischen Staaten doch stärker mit Metal assoziiere und Holland eher mir progressivem Rock oder Metal. Wie auch immer, BLUES PILLS kommen aus Schweden und liefern bereits Album Nummer drei aus. Und es wird – was war auch sonst zu erwarten – von Sängerin Elin Larsson dominiert. Die Stimme dieser Frau ist dermassen powervoll, charismatisch, dass sie für eine Band zu Fluch und Segen wird. „Ja,“ lautet der Aufschrei „Wir gehören auch zur Band!!!“
Das Album selber liefert elf Tracks, darunter den Hammersong „Don’t You Love It“, der aktuell von den Radiostationen rauf und runter gespielt wird. Was sich durch das Album zieht ist die gewohnte, geballte Kraft der Band aber auch ihre Kreativität beim Songwriting, die Hooklines und die fetten Riffs, welche Markenzeichen der Truppe sind. Schwächen gönnen sich die MusikerInnen keine, weder bei ihrem Handwerk noch bei den Songs. „Birthday“ ist ein kraftvolles, rundes Album, die Tracks passen allesamt gut zusammen und bilden eine EInheit.
Wie es scheint, hat auch die Tatsache, dass Sängerin Larsson während der Aufnahmen schwanger war und dem Zustand viel Energie und Motivation zuschreibt.
Fazit
„Birthday“ ist das dritte in einer Reihe grosser Alben – schlecht können BLUES PILLS einfach nicht. Das Album darf man sich wirklich gerne antun – passt auch zu den aktuell hohen Temperaturen, denn es ist richtig heiss!

BLUES PILLS are Elin Larsson with her rich vocals and raw, innate charisma, Zack Anderson (guitar), André Kvarnström (drums) and Kristoffer Schander (bass). For whatever reason, I’ve always felt that the band is based in Holland. It may be that I associate the Nordic countries more with metal and Holland more with progressive rock or metal. However, BLUES PILLS come from Sweden and are already delivering album number three. And it is – what else could be expected – dominated by singer Elin Larsson. This woman’s voice is so powerful and charismatic that it becomes both a curse and a blessing for a band. „Yes,“ is the cry, „we belong to the band too!!!“
The album itself contains eleven tracks, including the hit song „Don’t You Love It“, which is currently being played up and down the radio stations. What runs through the album is the band’s usual, concentrated power but also their creativity in songwriting, the hooklines and the fat riffs that are the band’s trademark. The musicians don’t allow themselves any weaknesses, neither in their craft nor in the songs. „Birthday“ is a powerful, well-rounded album, the tracks all fit together well and form a unity.
It seems that the fact that singer Larsson was pregnant during the recording process also contributed to the album’s energy and motivation.
Conclusion
„Birthday“ is the third in a series of great albums – BLUES PILLS simply can’t do bad. The album is a real pleasure to listen to – it also fits in with the current high temperatures, because it’s really hot!
