Ich bin jetzt gerade etwas unsicher, denn eigentlich kenne ich die Frontfrau der Band unter anderem Namen – offiziell ist das also BLAZY FLASH. Dann wären da noch Gitarrist JUAN JEANPIERRE und Basser DAVE MEIER – der Stuhl des Drummers ist aktuell noch frei…

BEYOND FREQUENCIES sind für mich ein typisch schweizerisches Phänomen – die Band beherrscht die Klaviatur von Marketing und Promo, das fehlende Label hindert nicht an einem professionellen Auftritt. Mit „Me Megalomaniac“ liefert die Band ihr zweites Album ab, bei dem auf den ersten Blick zumindest Recording und Mastering ebenfalls auf eine hochprofessionelle Mache hinweisen. Typisch schweizerisch? Es braucht einen guten (finanziellen) Boden, um dieserart ins Business einzusteigen – denn ein Business ist die Musik definitiv – und kein leichtes. Also, neben einer professionellen Herstellung und einer durchdachten und zielgerichteten Promo – erfüllt das Album auch musikalisch die Erwartungen?

Zum ersten; es ist schnell vorbei! Nur gerade gut 32 Minuten Spielzeit bietet die Scheibe – wenig Zeit, um zu überzeugen. Bereits vom ersten Ton an gibt die Truppe aber Gas. Track Nummer eins – „Good“ – ist mir persönlich etwas zu mainstreamig, dürfte etwas mehr knallen. Er ist deswegen nicht schlecht – einfach nicht überragend.
Deutlich besser knallt dann „Not Done Yet“ rein – ziemlich blastende Drums, ein deutlicher Vorwärtsdrang mit hochpräziser Drumarbeit. Die nächste Station, die mich fesselt, ist „Cast A Spell“ – spannende Rhythmusarbeit, ein interessantes Songwriting und ein guter Gegensatz zwischen Flashs klaren Stimme und dem ziemlich metalligen Riffing – der Track hat was.
Kern der Qualität dieser Band ist aus meiner Sicht einerseits die charismatische Stimme der Frontfrau, andererseits das hohe musikalische und technische Niveau der Band – auch das typisch schweizerisch. Unser Land bietet eine grosse Zahl von Bands, die ihren Job sehr gut beherrschen – was noch keinen Durchbruch gewährleistet. Dazu braucht es meist zwei Dinge; Hits und ein Label oder Management, das einen auf die Bühnen bringt.

Hitpotenzial hat auf jeden Fall die Nummer „Under My Skin“ – es dürfte kaum Zufall sein, dass BEYOND FREQUENCIES diese Single früh vervideoisierten und ausgekoppelt auf den Markt brachten.
„Dark & Stormy“ animiert ebenfalls zum Fusswippen, allenfalls zu einer leichten Bewegung der Hüften – Hände natürlich in der Hosentasche! So zeigt sich männliche Ekstase an vielen Konzerten. Heisst, der Track macht Spass und animiert zum Tanzen – ein schöner, „straight ahead“ – Rocksong.
Dann wäre da noch der Track, den ich als meinen persönlichen Liebling bezeichnen würde – „Swipe Right“ – ein Midtempotrack mit klarer Metalattitüde. Nicht die oberharte Nummer, aber ein schönes, treibendes Riffing, Rhythmuswechsel und beinahe schon Breakdowns – die Kombination der Stimmung mit der starken Stimme von Blazy Flash – ein Genuss.

Fazit

Ich bin ein bekennender Fan von Rock und Metal – die knallen! Ich liebe es, wenn es mich beim ersten Ton aus den Schuhen bläst.
Das ist nicht das Ziel und nicht die Heimat von BEYOND FREQUENCIES. Ihr Ding sind eher sauber arrangierte Rocknummern mit hohem musikalischem Anspruch – und einer guten Energie, Vorwärtsdrive und eine gute Liveperformance gehören eher zu ihrem Kerngeschäft – und das machen sie richtig gut. Das ALbum darf man sich also getrost kaufen – auch die Vinylversion. Und noch besser – eines der Konzerte besuchen, die Band live erleben und unterstützen – go ahead!

I’m a bit unsure right now, because actually I know the front woman of the band under a different name – so officially this is BLAZY FLASH. Then there would be guitarist JUAN JEANPIERRE and bassist DAVE MEIER – the drummer’s chair is currently still vacant…
BEXOND FREQUENCIES are for me a typical Swiss phenomenon – the band masters the claviature of marketing and promo, the missing label does not prevent a professional appearance. With „Megalomaniac“ the band delivers their second album, where at first sight at least recording and mastering also point to a highly professional making. Typically Swiss? It needs a good (financial) ground to enter the business in this way – because music is definitely a business – and not an easy one. So, besides a professional production and a thoughtful and purposeful promo – does the album meet the expectations musically?

To the first; it’s over quickly! Only just over 32 minutes playing time the disc offers – little time to convince. But already from the first note the troupe gives gas. Track number one – „Good“ – is a bit too mainstreamy for me personally, should bang a bit more. It is not bad because of that – just not outstanding.
Much better is „Not Done Yet“ – quite blasting drums, a clear forward momentum with highly precise drum work. The next stop that captivates me is „Cast A Spell“ – exciting rhythm work, interesting songwriting and a good contrast between Flash’s clear voice and the fairly metal riffing – this track has something.
From my point of view, the core of the quality of this band is on the one hand the charismatic voice of the front woman, on the other hand the high musical and technical level of the band – this is also typically Swiss. Our country offers a large number of bands that do their job very well – which does not guarantee a breakthrough. It usually takes two things; hits and a label or management that gets you on the stages.

In any case, the number „Under My Skin“ has hit potential – it should hardly be a coincidence that BEYOND FREQUENCIES videoed this single early and released it as an outcoupling.
„Dark & Stormy“ also encourages foot tapping, at most the slight movement of the hips – hands of course in the pocket – so shows male ecstasy at many concerts. That is, the track is fun and animates to dance – a nice, „straight ahead“ – rock song.
Then there is the track that I would call my personal favorite – „Swipe Right“ – a midtempo track with a clear metal attitude. Not the most hard number, but a nice driving riffing, rhythm changes and almost breakdowns – the combination of the mood with the strong voice of Blazy Flash – a pleasure.

Conclusion

I am a self-confessed fan of rock and metal – they bang! I love it when it blows me out of my shoes at the first note.
That’s not the goal and not the home of BEYOND FREQUENCIES. Their thing are rather clean arranged rock numbers with high musical demand – and a good energy, forward drive and a good live performance belong rather to their core business – and they do that really well. So you can buy the ALbum with confidence – also the vinyl version. And even better – visit one of the concerts, experience the band live and support them – go ahead!
